PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Riley Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Gleason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reed comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the Tiger. Gleason comes into a darkened arena with his song building. last dollar kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Gleason has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Riley Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Frank Gleason!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reed scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Reed seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Gleason won't allow Reed to pass to mount.
Reed missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Reed controlling the action here.
Gleason looks gassed!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reed wants to pass to mount but Gleason is defending the position.
Reed perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Reed drops an elbow to the side of Gleason's head.
Reed is controlling the pace.
Reed missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reed keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Reed looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gleason with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Reed working over Gleason with some ground and pound. Gleason looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Reed wants to pass the guard but Gleason is defending well.
Reed tries to stand but can't do so whilst Gleason controls his leg.

Reed slows the pace down in half guard.
It looks like Reed is going to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reed thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gleason's head.
Reed content to control rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reed lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riley Reed dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Reed gets a clinch.

Reed takes the fight into the clinch.

Reed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Reed shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reed throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gleason is trying to get back to full guard.
Reed throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gleason is breathing heavily.

Reed thows a huge punch but Gleason dodges it nicely.
Reed is controlling the pace.
Reed passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Reed controlling the pace for now.
Reed is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Riley Reed just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Reed gets the takedown into side control.
Reed takes a little break here. Gleason wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Reed has knee on belly and moves into mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed punishing his opponent with strikes.
Reed breaks from Gleason's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Reed tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reed has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Reed lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gleason hang on?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riley Reed dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Gleason gets caught flat footed, as Reed shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Reed's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Reed is pushing down on Gleason's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gleason is fighting to maintain full guard but Reed has managed to sneak the leg through.
Reed stalling.
Reed tries to stand and escape but Gleason is controlling the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Reed content to control rather than advance.
Reed seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gleason for as long as he can get away with.

Reed thows a huge punch but Gleason dodges it nicely.
Reed tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gleason knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Reed takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Reed takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Reed looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Reed is pressing down on Gleason's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gleason is holding on for now.
Reed is taking a breather. Gleason says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Reed trying to mount his opponent but Gleason defends it.
Reed slows the pace down in half guard.
Riley Reed overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gleason has hold of Reed's hands but Reed slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Reed is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Riley Reed just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
A nice combination there by Reed.


It looks like Frank Gleason has been cut.
Reed lands with a straight right. Gleason didn't see that one coming.
Reed misses with a series of wild punches.
Gleason doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Frank Gleason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Reed shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gleason tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Reed is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Reed wants to control from the top but Gleason keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Riley Reed showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Reed has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
