Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sakari Ostermalm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Smokey Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ostermalm's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Pantera - Cowboys From Hell. Joe comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Slightly Stoopid - Above The Clouds kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sakari Ostermalm! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Smokey Joe! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ostermalm ducks under a wild hook from Joe. Ostermalm keeps the fight on the outside. Ostermalm goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. A right-left combo lands from Ostermalm. Smokey Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ostermalm throws a right hand that Joe ducks under and follows up with a left that Joe also avoids with ease. Ostermalm tries to clinch but Joe is having none of it. Joe swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ostermalm counters with a takedown into side control. Ostermalm working the body and head with strikes. Ostermalm is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joe has escaped the position, nice work there. Ostermalm is putting a hurting on Joe here, landing some big shots from side control. You can see the frustration on Joe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ostermalm tries for a kimura but Joe is defending well. Joe is trying to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ostermalm tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ostermalm is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Ostermalm works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Joe is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Joe tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ostermalm working Joe over with strikes here. Ostermalm lands a heavy elbow. Ostermalm controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ostermalm working for a submission but Joe is keeping him at bay. Ostermalm is breathing heavily. Ostermalm unloads with some shots from mount but Joe bucks and avoids them well.
Ostermalm wants to control the pace but Joe is squirming around nicely. Ostermalm prevents Joe from getting the reversal. Joe is squirming around, avoiding Ostermalm's attempts to control the action. Ostermalm has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Joe somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Ostermalm shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Ostermalm throwing shots but Joe is blocking nicely. Joe wants to get back to his feet. Ostermalm wants to take a breather but Joe is having none of it. Ostermalm content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Joe is trying to stand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Joe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Ostermalm shoots in looking for a takedown. Joe tries to sprawl out of it but Ostermalm keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ostermalm is looking to clinch. Joe on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ostermalm. Ostermalm obviously looking to wear him down.
Joe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ostermalm uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Ostermalm clinches up with Joe and pushes him back against the cage. Joe is trying to drag Ostermalm to the mat but Ostermalm just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ostermalm tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Joe's elbow. Joe drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sakari Ostermalm has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Smokey Joe. Ostermalm misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Joe pushes Ostermalm back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A frustrated look appears on Joe's face as he tries to break the clinch. Joe takes an elbow to the forehead.
It looks like Smokey Joe has been cut. Ostermalm has a couple of punches blocked by Joe.
Ostermalm drags the fight down to the ground.
Ostermalm keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully. Joe is breathing heavily. Joe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ostermalm has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joe has managed to get both his arms back between Ostermalm's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe looking to sit in guard and control but Ostermalm gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Joe working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ostermalm. Ostermalm throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Joe works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ostermalm trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom. Joe pushes Ostermalm off and gets back to his feet.
Joe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ostermalm did well to prevent Joe getting side control. Ostermalm looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Joe looks to throw the jab but Ostermalm is out of range. Ostermalm tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Joe counters with a left to the body. Joe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Joe fails with an attempt to clinch.

Smokey Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Smokey Joe's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Ostermalm shoots in and bounces Joe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Joe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Joe is working for a kimura but Ostermalm is defending it quite comfortably.

Joe manages to escape and get back to his feet! Ostermalm instigates a clinch. Joe is trying to drag Ostermalm to the mat but Ostermalm just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Ostermalm lands a knee to the head.

He's worked his way up against the cage but Joe has just dragged him back down to the mat. Joe looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Ostermalm is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Joe trying to control but Ostermalm is working from the bottom. Joe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ostermalm is keeping the position for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Joe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ostermalm dives on top into guard. Ostermalm trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ostermalm throwing strikes but missing. Ostermalm trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sakari Ostermalm. Well Ostermalm has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
