PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kaa Ass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deron Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaa Ass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deron Bryant!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bryant shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ass sprawls well. Ass wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bryant gets slowly back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Ass.

Bryant gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bryant keeping moving, preventing Ass from controlling successfully.
Bryant tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Bryant is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bryant striking off his back but it's not causing Ass any problems.
Ass trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bryant working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ass.
Ass trying to control the position from guard on top but Bryant is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ass controlling from the top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bryant tries to clinch up.

Bryant looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ass is looking to improve his position.
Bryant is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ass is refusing to be controlled, as Bryant sits in half guard.
Ass is looking to escape.
Ass trying to hold on to Bryant's head to control him but Bryant postures up.

Ass looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ass is breathing heavily.
Bryant trying to control the action but Ass is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Left hook, right uppercut from Bryant.
A solid leg kick lands there for Bryant.
Bryant shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ass counters with a single leg into guard. Bryant didn't expect that.
Ass might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bryant is pulling down on Ass's head to control his posture.
Bryant is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ass is controlling him.

Bryant manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ass shoots and misses

and Bryant moves into the clinch.
Ass fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bryant's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Bryant is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ass pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kaa Ass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deron Bryant.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bryant lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ass fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ass letting Bryant take a breather here.

Bryant escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Bryant or perhaps it was just good defense by Ass which made him look bad.

Ass shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bryant napping and manages to drive through into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kaa Ass will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ass shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bryant decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ass's guard.

Ass is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bryant trying to control the position from guard on top but Ass is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bryant throwing strikes but missing.
Ass keeping full guard, as Bryant tries to pass.
Bryant controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bryant trying to control the position from guard on top but Ass is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ass wants to sweep here but Bryant controlling him for the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Bryant closes the distance and clinches.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Bryant.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bryant has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ass is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ass has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ass wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ass is working for takedown but Bryant is calmly controlling the position for now.

Bryant pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bryant tries to clinch up.
Bryant lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Bryant tries to clinch there but Ass circles away.
Bryant has his takedown stuffed
and Ass counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ass misses with a body shot.
Bryant changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ass tries to avoid it but Bryant manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ass to the ground. Ass escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kaa Ass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deron Bryant.

Ass takes the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ass is trying to force a seperation but Bryant has the dominant position.
Bryant lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Ass.

Bryant breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bryant darts in trying to clinch

and Ass decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bryant's guard.
Bryant looking to control.

Bryant is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ass defends well.

Bryant throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ass escapes and throws Bryant's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ass wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bryant keeps working.
Bryant manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Bryant wants to get back to his feet.
Bryant blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ass.

Bryant has one foot on Ass's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Deron Bryant will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Bryant has closed the distance and engaged Ass in a clinch.
Ass is pressed up against the cage. Bryant has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ass down to the mat. Ass avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bryant avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ass rushes Bryant and presses him up against the cage.

Bryant breaks the clinch.
Bryant lands a with a good body shot.

Ass moves into the clinch successfully.
Ass tries a body shot but Bryant blocks it.
Ass looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Bryant is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Ass wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bryant has him pressed against the cage.

Bryant gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bryant looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bryant wants to control from the top but Ass keeps moving.

Ass had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bryant is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ass Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bryant's back instead.

Ass looking to break Bryant's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Bryant remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ass will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ass trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Bryant is trying to shake Ass off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Ass won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
Bryant throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ass's waist but Ass gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bryant off to one side.
Ass shoots in but no luck this time.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bryant.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryant trying to control the position but Ass is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ass struggling a bit here.
Ass throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Bryant works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Ass is not content to let Bryant control the position.
Ass tries to improve position but can't.
Ass trying to remain calm as Bryant controls from the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Bryant shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ass's guard.
Bryant stopping the sweep attempt from Ass.
Ass keeping full guard, as Bryant tries to pass.
Bryant trying to control but Ass is working from the bottom.
Bryant wants to stand but Ass is controlling his posture from full guard.
Ass not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Deron Bryant comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bryant has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
