PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Knimble Kwik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alika Akahi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akahi is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Aint no sunshine. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Knimble Kwik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alika Akahi!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akahi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kwik pinned against the cage. Kwik gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Akahi is defended easily by Kwik.
Kwik throws a nice looking combination but Akahi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kwik lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kwik.


It looks like Alika Akahi has been cut.
Knimble Kwik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Akahi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kwik will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Akahi closes the distance and clinches up with Kwik, looking for a takedown. Akahi pushes Kwik against the cage but Kwik circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Knimble Kwik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alika Akahi.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Akahi won't allow Kwik to sweep him here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kwik swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Akahi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kwik misses with an uppercut. Akahi saw that one coming.

Akahi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Akahi is looking to take a break and control but Kwik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kwik wants to improve his position but Akahi is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kwik will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Akahi is landing with some decent strikes but Kwik is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Knimble Kwik will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Akahi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Akahi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kwik's guard.

I think Akahi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
