PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miles DAvis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyjoto Maskida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think DAvis might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Miles DAvis - someday my prince will come. Maskida has chosen Bullet For My Valentine - Tears Don't Fall as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miles DAvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyjoto Maskida!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maskida throws out a loose jab but DAvis uses good head movement to avoid it.
DAvis moves out of range of the strikes.
Lyjoto Maskida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DAvis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maskida napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Maskida is looking to reverse the position.
Maskida is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Maskida being controlled for a moment.
Maskida looks to move to half guard but instead DAvis has passed into mount! Damn!
Maskida can't escape the position.
DAvis controlling his opponent.
Maskida bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
DAvis looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Maskida throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as DAvis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Maskida wants to control from the top but DAvis keeps moving.
DAvis is pulling down on Maskida's head to control his posture.
DAvis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
DAvis controlling the position.

DAvis is looking for a triangle but Maskida pushes his legs off easily.
Maskida trying to control but DAvis is working from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
DAvis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Maskida looks to land a left hand but DAvis moved out of range nicely.
Lyjoto Maskida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
DAvis defending well as Maskida loads up on a big left hand.
DAvis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Maskida.

DAvis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
DAvis forces his way into half guard.

DAvis wants to work for an arm triangle but Maskida is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Maskida looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DAvis is trying to control. Maskida wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Maskida thows a left - swing and a miss!
DAvis is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Maskida.
Maskida lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but DAvis circles away quickly and effectively.
Miles DAvis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Maskida gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
DAvis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
DAvis advances to mount.
Maskida tries to improve his position but instead DAvis has taken his back!
DAvis trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. DAvis controlling the positon.
Maskida breaks DAvis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Maskida throws a strike but DAvis rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
DAvis trying to control but Maskida is working from the bottom.
DAvis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maskida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
DAvis advances to half guard.
Maskida moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Maskida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. DAvis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maskida is breathing heavily.

Maskida working for a triangle but DAvis defends it easily.

Maskida working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. DAvis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. DAvis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

DAvis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DAvis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
DAvis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Maskida is looking to improve his position.
Maskida blocking the ground and pound attempt from DAvis.
DAvis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
DAvis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maskida does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

DAvis is taking a breather. Maskida says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Maskida is staying active underneath DAvis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Maskida is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of DAvis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take DAvis's back!

Maskida has got his arm under DAvis's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! DAvis has spun round into Maskida's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
DAvis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
DAvis is trying to control. Maskida wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
DAvis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
DAvis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Maskida is looking for a sweep. DAvis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

DAvis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Miles DAvis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
DAvis ducks under a wild hook from Maskida.
Maskida jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Maskida misses with an uppercut.
Maskida throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
DAvis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Maskida missing with a left hand there. DAvis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
DAvis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Maskida throws a shot to the body.
DAvis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

DAvis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Maskida was covering up waiting for the punch and DAvis finishes the takedown easily into guard.

DAvis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Maskida takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
DAvis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

DAvis wants to control from the top but Maskida keeps moving.
DAvis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Maskida had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. DAvis is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maskida Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take DAvis's back instead.
DAvis manages to reverse the position and now he's in Maskida's guard. Nice work there by DAvis.
DAvis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
DAvis perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
DAvis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Maskida defending well though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Maskida tries to roll over but DAvis keeps him under control.
DAvis is keen to just control but Maskida is a slippery customer.
DAvis is taking a breather. Maskida says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Maskida is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. DAvis is defending well though. Maskida let's go of the attempt for now.

DAvis manages to reverse the position and now he's in Maskida's guard. Nice work there by DAvis.

Maskida throws a hook but DAvis blocks it.
DAvis misses with a head kick.

DAvis clinches up with Maskida and pushes him back against the cage.
Maskida jumps guard but DAvis stands there with Maskida around his waist. Maskida gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Maskida is fighting off a takedown attempt but DAvis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Maskida to the mat. Maskida regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
DAvis is looking to work some ground and pound but Maskida has wrist control.
DAvis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maskida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lyjoto Maskida has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as DAvis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Miles DAvis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for DAvis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
