Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chong Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vini Dragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chong Li had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chong Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vini Dragon!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dragon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Li.
Li takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Dragon rushes Li and presses him up against the cage.
Li looking to slow down the pace here.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Li fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Li shoots for a takedown but Dragon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chong Li. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dragon pushes Li up against the cage in a clinch.

Dragon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dragon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dragon paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Li shoots in for a takedown but Dragon shows good takedown defense.
Li will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Li counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Li.

A frustrated look appears on Dragon's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Li misses with a short punch on the inside.
Li is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Dragon blocks an elbow strike from Li.
Li trying to stall but Dragon improves his position.
Li is trying to drag Dragon to the mat but Dragon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Li is breathing heavily.

Dragon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dragon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Li drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dragon gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dragon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dragon manages to break the clinch.
Dragon misses with a wild body shot.
Vini Dragon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dragon throws a right hand that Li ducks under and follows up with a left that Li also avoids with ease.
Dragon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Dragon clinches with his opponent.
Li is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Dragon instigates a clinch.

Dragon wants to break free but Li has control.
Li is trying to break free.
Li can't break the clinch.

Dragon manages to break the clinch.
Li looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dragon is fending him off so far but Li persists. Nope, Dragon circles away and we're back to standing.
Li fails with a takedown attempt.
Dragon works over Li's head and body with a nice combination.

Dragon takes the fight into the clinch.
Dragon wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Dragon breaks the clinch.

Dragon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dragon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Dragon pulls guard successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dragon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dragon wants to stand up but Li is controlling him.
Dragon is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Li wants to control from the top but Dragon keeps moving.
Li missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dragon keeping moving, preventing Li from controlling successfully.
Dragon is looking to stand up but Li isn't so interested in that idea.
Dragon is looking to stand back up but Li counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Dragon.
Dragon tries to kick Li off but Li keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Li throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Dragon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Li has his takedown stuffed

and Dragon counters by clinching up.
Li has Dragon pressed against the cage, preventing Dragon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Li drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dragon gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dragon wants to get back to striking at distance but Li won't allow it.

Dragon breaks the clinch.
Dragon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Li closes the distance looking to clinch

and Dragon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dragon.
Li wants a takedown.
Dragon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Li has him pressed against the cage.
Li stalling in the clinch but Dragon improves position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vini Dragon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Li shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dragon defends it nicely.
Li takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A big left from Li misses.

Dragon clinches up against the cage.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Li wants to clinch but Dragon slips to the side

and Dragon counters by clinching up.
Li keeps control of Dragon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Li goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dragon prevents it.
Li tries to break free but Dragon pushes him back against the cage.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Dragon instigates a clinch.

Dragon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Li misses with a takedown
and Dragon counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chong Li. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Li gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dragon counters with a three punch combo that has Li backing up. Li nods at Dragon to acknowledge the strikes.
Li fails with the takedown

and Dragon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Li has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Li is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dragon is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Li to the mat. Li regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Li had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dragon is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Li Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dragon's back instead.
Dragon trying to get back to his feet but Li is in full control for now.
Dragon is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dragon defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Li is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Dragon knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Dragon for a finish.
Dragon is trying to get back to his feet but Li has full control of the position and if anything, Dragon has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Li tries to get the hooks in deep but Dragon pushed the leg off.
Dragon controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Li working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Dragon is doing well to defend. Li seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Dragon is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chong Li!
