Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Relio Sanchez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trey Hope! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hope displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Hope lands a really nice looking cross but Sanchez seems unphased.
Hope is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Sanchez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hope goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sanchez prevents it.
Sanchez tries for a takedown. No joy.
Sanchez wants a takedown but no success here.
Sanchez is trying to trip Hope. He has hold of a leg but Hope is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sanchez persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Sanchez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hope is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hope has escaped and now he's on top! Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hope is one step ahead there. Hope passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez wants to get back to full guard. Hope seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sanchez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Hope seems to be working for a kimura but Sanchez defends the submission attempt. Hope looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sanchez is looking to improve his position.
Hope trying to control from half guard but Sanchez is working away. Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Hope is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hope lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Hope pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hope darts in trying to clinch and Sanchez counters with a shoot takedown. Hope fights it but they end up in guard. Hope working for a triangle but Sanchez defends it easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Hope looks gassed! Sanchez wants to get up but he can't break Hope's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Sanchez won't allow Hope to sweep him here. Sanchez scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hope had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sanchez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hope Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sanchez's back instead. Sanchez tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Sanchez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Sanchez is working hard here to advance position. Hope content just to control the position here. Sanchez is trying desperately to improve position. Hope controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hope tries to control but Sanchez wriggling away. Sanchez working to try and regain half guard.
Sanchez wants to control but Hope is having none of it. Sanchez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hope lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Hope tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Hope prevents Sanchez from getting the reversal. Hope wants to take Sanchez's back here but Sanchez is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Trey Hope dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Hope tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sanchez slips under a jab. Sanchez avoids a kick to the body.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hope as he avoids it easily. Hope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hope tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Sanchez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hope's guard. Hope is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Sanchez advances position into side control! Sanchez is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Hope is trying to escape and Sanchez transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Hope is forced to tap! Nice work there by Sanchez! Very nice indeed!
