Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Kurkku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JB Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kurkku kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Födosagan. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kurkku has one of Penn's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Penn trying to control the position but Kurkku is working away.
Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kurkku to his feet.
Penn takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kurkku stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kurkku wants it to stay on the feet.
Penn slips a straight right by Kurkku.

Penn shoots in for a double leg but Kurkku sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Kurkku tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kurkku manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Penn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kurkku sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Penn somewhat.
Kurkku lands a nice shot that snaps Penn's head back.

Penn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kurkku.
Kurkku loads up on a big right hand but Penn slips the punch.
Penn takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Kurkku closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Penn to the mat! Penn manages to get full guard.
Penn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kurkku wanted to stand there but Penn had control of the position.
Kurkku got a little sloppy there for a moment and Penn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kurkku has managed to get both his arms back between Penn's legs - danger averted.
Penn has a closed guard, preventing Kurkku from standing up.
Kurkku stands and throws Penn's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Check out the look on Kurkku's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Kurkku has knee on belly momentarily but Penn bucks him off and regains half guard.

Penn tries to move into range but Kurkku moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Kurkku is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kurkku cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Penn takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kurkku lands a glancing blow to the side of Penn's head.
Kurkku scores with a nice strike.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kurkku, as that shot connected.
Kurkku lands with a nice body punch.
Kurkku catches Penn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kurkku lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Penn backs up against the cage.
Kurkku thuds a left hand into Penn's body.

and Kurkku counters with a nice uppercut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kurkku scores with a decent looking hook.
Kurkku wants to land a leg kick but Penn is out of range.
Nice jab there from Kurkku.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Kurkku fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Penn looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kurkku uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Kurkku connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Penn fails with the takedown
and Kurkku counters with a single leg into guard. Penn didn't expect that.
Kurkku thows a big elbow that misses.
Penn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kurkku can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kurkku is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Penn has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Kurkku takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Penn tries to hold on but Kurkku pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee warns Penn that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kurkku lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Kurkku throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Penn has his hands clasped together but Kurkku breaks the hold and Penn is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Kurkku!
