The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez blocks the body kick.
Sanchez leaves Gray with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Gray has taken the fight into the clinch. Sanchez looking to throw knees to the head but Gray is blocking nicely.
Gray tightens his grip and picks Sanchez up, before dumping him to the ground. Sanchez manages to land in guard. Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Gray from controlling successfully. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanchez can do anything to dispel that myth. Gray's corner is telling him to maintain position. Gray is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Gray trying to control but Sanchez is working from the bottom. Sanchez lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Sanchez swings wildly with an uppercut but Gray uses good head movement to avoid it. Gray on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Gray lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Sanchez or not. Sanchez is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Gray is keeping busy. Sanchez lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gray backwards. Gray fails to pull guard.

Sanchez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gray working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Gray pushes down on Sanchez's leg and manages to get into half guard. Sanchez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Gray is retaining full guard. That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Sanchez wants to try and get back to his feet. Gray with a couple of short strikes. Gray cracks Sanchez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Gray lands with some strikes. Gray wants to control the pace but Sanchez is squirming around nicely. Sanchez is desperately trying to improve his position but Gray has a good base and remains in mount. BOOM! Gray connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gray lands a big shot there that rocks Sanchez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Philip Gray. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gray, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
