Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pepito Manaloto! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Mendes! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manaloto slaps away a takedown attempt from Mendes, before circling back to the center of the mat. The fight stays on the outside here - Mendes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mendes fails to land the takedown. Mendes scores a takedown into full mount! Manaloto is squirming around, avoiding Mendes's attempts to control the action. Manaloto working to try and regain half guard.
Mendes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Manaloto is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mendes has control of Manaloto's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Manaloto regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendes is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Manaloto has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Manaloto! Manaloto is breathing heavily. Mendes wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Manaloto defends well. Manaloto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mendes has his foot on Manaloto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Manaloto works his way back into a safe position though. Mendes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mendes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Manaloto is aware though and is defending well. Thiago Mendes dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Manaloto as he avoids it easily. Manaloto displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mendes. Manaloto has his takedown stuffed and Mendes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Manaloto! Mendes content just to control the position here. Manaloto squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Manaloto has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Manaloto looks a forlorn figure.

Mendes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Mendes working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Manaloto turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mendes off and cradles Manaloto's limp body as Mendes celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Thiago Mendes!
