Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Groyce Racie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kirk Monroe! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Racie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Racie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Racie stops Monroe from getting back to his feet.
Racie is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Monroe has managed to free his arm - good work. Monroe is defending against the submission attempts here by Racie.
That's one minute gone in the round. Racie tries to pass to full mount but Monroe defends it. Monroe wants to improve his position but Racie is controlling well.
Racie is trying to work for a kimura but Monroe is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Monroe can do anything to dispel that myth. Monroe wants to improve his position but Racie is controlling well.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Racie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Racie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Monroe but Monroe pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Groyce Racie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Racie fails to land the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice sprawl there from Monroe as Racie shoots in.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Racie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Monroe circles away. Racie looks for a takedown but Monroe sprawls well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Racie looks for a takedown but Monroe sprawls well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Groyce Racie will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Monroe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Racie looks for a takedown but Monroe sprawls well.

He's got his arms around Monroe's waist but Monroe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Racie off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Groyce Racie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Nice sprawl there from Monroe as Racie shoots in. Racie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Monroe pushes Racie away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Racie gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Racie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Monroe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Monroe tries to bench press Racie off him but Racie keeps the position. Monroe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Racie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Racie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Monroe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Racie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Monroe is trying to control Racie's posture but Racie avoids it. Racie advances to full mount. Monroe is wriggling around trying to escape.
Racie fails to take his opponent's back. Racie working for a submission but Monroe is keeping him at bay. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Monroe is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Racie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Monroe is trying to escape the mount.
Racie avoids the attempt from Monroe to control. Monroe tries to get back to half guard but can't. Racie wants to finish this one by submission but Monroe is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Racie. Racie has hold of Monroe's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Monroe manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Monroe tries to lock up and control but Racie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Racie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Monroe squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Racie swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
