Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Todd Thain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Imran Shaah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thain comes to the cage accompanied by Cypress Hill: Insane In The Brain. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shaah closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shaah lands in his opponent's guard. Shaah scoring with some ground and pound. Thain throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Thain keeping moving, preventing Shaah from controlling successfully. Shaah throws a strike but Thain rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shaah is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shaah postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Thain has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Shaah is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Thain. Shaah works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Thain tries to get back to half guard but can't. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shaah working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Shaah is chipping away with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The strikes coming from Shaah are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Thain avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Shaah. Thain gets back to half guard. Thain blocking the ground and pound attempt from Shaah. Shaah scoring with strikes to the body and head. Shaah winds up and cracks Thain with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Thain looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Thain tries to get to full guard but Shaah has control of the leg.

Thain looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Shaah looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Thain with a short hammerfist. Shaah tries to score a power double leg takedown but Thain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shaah somewhat. Shaah scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Shaah working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Shaah missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shaah lands a nice short elbow. Shaah sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Thain defending well though. Imran Shaah has got the better of the ground game so far.

Shaah works his foot free and advances to mount. Thain in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Shaah unloading with bombs! Shaah cracks Thain with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Thain is rocked! Shaah putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Oh Thain is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Shaah prevents Thain from getting the reversal. Thain seems to have got his legs back now. Shaah lands a heavy elbow. Thain is squirming around, avoiding Shaah's attempts to control the action. Shaah loads up with a big shot that hurts Thain! He's pulled Shaah in close but Shaah has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Thain survive? More strikes from Shaah and Thain is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
