Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jukko Hamalainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hamalainen comes to the cage accompanied by the Finnish National Anthem. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

11 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jukko Hamalainen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Frank Mir! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir scores with a sloppy right hand. Hamalainen should have avoided that one. Hamalainen shoots in and drives through. Mir sprawls well. A big right from Mir misses. Hamalainen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mir takes a swing at Hamalainen's ribcage but misses. Mir connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Hamalainen misses with a looping left. Hamalainen has closed the distance and engaged Mir in a clinch.
Mir wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hamalainen scores with a hook to the body. Mir working hard to break the clinch. Mir blocks a body shot from Hamalainen. Hamalainen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mir looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
It looks like Frank Mir has been cut. Mir throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir misses with an uppercut. Hamalainen saw that one coming. Hamalainen cracks Mir with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Hamalainen closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Hamalainen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mir as he jumps to the side. Hamalainen shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jukko Hamalainen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hamalainen slaps away a takedown attempt from Mir, before circling back to the center of the mat. Mir misses with a hook. Frank Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mir throws an overhand right that lands on Hamalainen's shoulder, as Hamalainen tries to avoid the shot. Hamalainen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mir doesn't seem bothered though. Mir keeps the fight on the outside.

Mir manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hamalainen is trying to control the position but Mir postures up. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mir looks to land a left hand but Hamalainen moved out of range nicely. Hamalainen moves out of range as Mir strikes. Mir with a jab. Hamalainen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mir moves away. Mir ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hamalainen moves away. Mir throws a shot from downtown. Hamalainen moves away and avoids it. Hamalainen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mir. Mir missing with a left hand there. Hamalainen throws a big shot that misses. Mir shoots for a double leg takedown but Hamalainen sprawls well. He's pushed Mir's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mir misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hamalainen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Mir pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Mir throws the left hand but Hamalainen avoids the punch easily. Hamalainen avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Hamalainen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mir ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hamalainen moves away. Mir throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hamalainen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Hamalainen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mir's head. Hamalainen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round. Donk. Hamalainen catches Mir right on the button with a cross. Mir misses the shot to the body. Hamalainen lands with a nice body punch. Hamalainen dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Mir is breathing heavily. Mir misses with a looping left. Hamalainen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hamalainen lands in his opponent's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hamalainen wants to pass the guard but Mir is keeping the position. Hamalainen looking to sit in guard and control but Mir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mir preventing the sweep.

Mir tries to roll over but Hamalainen keeps him under control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hamalainen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mir keeps working. Hamalainen drops an elbow to the side of Mir's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mir wants to get back to full guard. Hamalainen is trying to control. Mir wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Hamalainen is thwarting Mir's attempts to control the position. Mir tries to kick Hamalainen off but Hamalainen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mir takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hamalainen throws the left hand but Mir avoids the punch easily. Mir is pushing down on Hamalainen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hamalainen is fighting to maintain full guard but Mir has managed to sneak the leg through. Mir seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hamalainen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Jukko Hamalainen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hamalainen is controlling Mir's position as best he can from this difficult position. Hamalainen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hamalainen. Hamalainen throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mir escapes and throws Hamalainen's legs to the side, diving into side control! Mir working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Mir tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Frank Mir has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mir takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mir tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hamalainen's legs. Mir wants to control but Hamalainen is keeping him busy. Hamalainen tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mir working away. Hamalainen is not content to let Mir control the position. Mir tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hamalainen's legs.

Hamalainen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mir napping and manages to drive through into side control! Hamalainen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mir can do to turn this around? Hamalainen just content to control the position. Hamalainen wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy. Hamalainen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

And that's the end of the fight! Jukko Hamalainen showed his dominance in that final round. Well Hamalainen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
