Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Connely! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masahiko Kimura! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Connely misses with a looping right. Connely throws out a loose jab but Kimura uses good head movement to avoid it. Kimura walks into a left hand.
It looks like Masahiko Kimura has been cut. Connely fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Connely fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kimura sprawls well initially but Connely persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Kimura manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kimura keeping moving, preventing Connely from controlling successfully. Kimura escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Connely gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Connely stopping the sweep attempt from Kimura. That's one minute gone in the round. Connely is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Kimura is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kimura escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Connely trying to control but Kimura is working from the bottom. Connely throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Connely darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Kimura is refusing to be controlled, as Connely sits in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kimura is looking for a sweep. Connely is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kimura wants to sweep but Connely has passed to side control! Connely controls the position. Kimura tries to get back to half guard but can't. Connely is looking to take a break and control but Kimura is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kimura is trying to control Connely's posture but Connely avoids it.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Connely misses with a hook. Connely ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Kimura gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A slow jab from Connely misses its intended target. Dan Connely seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Connely closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kimura to the mat! Kimura manages to get full guard. Connely looking to pass the guard. Connely takes a decent strike to the side of the head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Kimura is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dan Connely dominated that round. The cut man is working on Masahiko Kimura's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Connely changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kimura tries to avoid it but Connely manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kimura to the ground. Kimura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Kimura stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kimura wants it to stay on the feet. Connely is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Connely looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Connely. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fighters circle momentarily. Kimura darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Connely fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Connely throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Kimura blocks a jab. Connely uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kimura. Kimura shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kimura was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Kimura tries to control but Connely wriggling away. Kimura is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Connely can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Connely wants to hold on but Kimura pushes him away. Kimura controlling from mount. Kimura trying to control but he's not successful this time. Connely somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet! Connely fails with the takedown and Kimura counters with a nice double leg into guard. Kimura looking to sit in guard and control but Connely gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Connely looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kimura had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Connely is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kimura Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Connely's back instead. Connely defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Kimura's arms. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kimura keeps control of the position as Connely tries to break free.
That's three minutes gone in the round. I would not like to be Connely right now.
Connely is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. You can see the frustration on Connely's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Kimura is trying to stick to Connely's back but Connely is turning into Kimura. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kimura's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Connely. Kimura is trying to control the position but Connely postures up. Connely wants to control from the top but Kimura keeps moving. Kimura has an active guard here but Connely has managed to pass into half guard.
Connely takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Connely scores with a couple of good hammerfists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Masahiko Kimura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Masahiko Kimura's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Connely lands a jab to Kimura's midsection. Kimura takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Connely throws a big shot that misses. Nice defenses there by Connely. Connely shoots and misses and Kimura counters with a lovely shot to the body. Connely fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Kimura on the wrong end of a nice jab. Kimura takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Connely shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kimura manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Kimura is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kimura looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Connely is concentrating on defense, preventing Kimura from advancing position. Kimura takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Connely controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Connely is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kimura's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kimura's back! Kimura is trying to break free.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
