Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Willie Herenton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herenton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Emelianenko, pushing him back against the cage. With the fighters up against the cage, Emelianenko throws an elbow but misses. Herenton tries to pull guard but Emelianenko holds him up against the cage and eventually Herenton drops back down to his feet.
Herenton can't get the takedown.
Herenton turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Herenton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Herenton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Emelianenko sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Herenton somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Willie Herenton. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fight stays on the outside here - Emelianenko looks like he's thinking about clinching though. No luck for Herenton with that takedown attempt. Emelianenko rushes Herenton and presses him up against the cage.

Emelianenko has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Herenton is trying to keep an underhook but Emelianenko manages to get the takedown into half guard. Emelianenko is controlling the pace.
Herenton is trying to maintain the position but Emelianenko is very close to passing his half guard. Herenton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Emelianenko is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Herenton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Emelianenko throwing shots but Herenton is blocking nicely. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emelianenko tries to pass the half guard into mount. Herenton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Emelianenko has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Emelianenko is working for a kimura but Herenton is defending it quite comfortably.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Herenton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Emelianenko. Herenton shoots in looking for a takedown. Emelianenko tries to sprawl out of it but Herenton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Emelianenko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Emelianenko fails with an attempt to clinch.
Herenton feints and as Emelianenko raises his hands in defense, Herenton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Herenton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Emelianenko bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Herenton's guard. Herenton is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emelianenko is controlling him. Herenton is breathing heavily. Emelianenko trying to control but Herenton is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko looking to pass the guard. Herenton keeping moving, preventing Emelianenko from controlling successfully. Herenton wriggles free and stands up. Herenton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Emelianenko sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Herenton somewhat. Herenton shoots in for a takedown and gets it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Fedor Emelianenko will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Emelianenko looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Emelianenko throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Emelianenko in particular looking to stall. Herenton works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herenton seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Herenton trying to control the position.
Herenton wants to sweep but no luck. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Emelianenko decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Emelianenko shoots and misses and Herenton counters with a big head kick but Emelianenko shrugs it off. Emelianenko gets the takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Herenton wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! You can see the frustration on Herenton's face as Emelianenko controls the position. Herenton gets back to half guard. Emelianenko trying to control the action but Herenton is working from the bottom. Herenton avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Emelianenko.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Herenton sees it coming and defends easily. Emelianenko tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Emelianenko tries to pass the half guard into mount. Herenton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Emelianenko trying to control from Herenton's half guard. Herenton has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Herenton is trying to control the position but Emelianenko postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Herenton is adopting a defensive guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Herenton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Herenton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Emelianenko really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Herenton trying to control but Emelianenko is having none of it. Emelianenko is trying to reverse the position but instead Herenton has taken his back - oops! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Fedor Emelianenko will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Emelianenko misses with a takedown attempt and Herenton counters with a nice double leg into side control. Emelianenko won't be happy with that. Emelianenko is looking to reverse the position. Emelianenko is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Herenton is controlling him well. Herenton stands up. Herenton has a takedown stuffed. Willie Herenton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Emelianenko wants to clinch and Herenton counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Emelianenko is staying active underneath Herenton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herenton not landing any meaningful shots this time. Emelianenko is defending against the submission attempts here by Herenton.
Emelianenko tries to roll over but Herenton keeps him under control. Herenton stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. A solid leg kick lands there for Emelianenko.

Herenton lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Emelianenko! Emelianenko is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Herenton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Herenton wants to control the pace but Emelianenko is squirming around nicely. Emelianenko really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herenton has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Emelianenko's face.
Herenton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Herenton is standing up, even though he is in mount. Emelianenko tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Herenton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Emelianenko is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Herenton pulls his head out easily. Emelianenko trying to get back to full guard but Herenton takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herenton tries to control but Emelianenko wriggling away. Emelianenko can't escape the position.
Herenton avoids the attempt from Emelianenko to control. Herenton is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Emelianenko misses with a takedown and Herenton counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
And that's the end of the fight! Willie Herenton showed his dominance in that final round. I think Emelianenko has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
