PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Cain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Drake!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake throws a wild body kick that Cain sees coming a mile off.
Drake tries to close the distance and clinch but Cain swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Drake looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
A head kick misses from Drake.
Cain has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Drake.
Drake looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Cain shoots in looking for a takedown. Drake tries to sprawl out of it but Cain keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drake manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Drake.
Drake lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Ricky Cain has been cut.
Drake throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Cain tries to score a power double leg takedown but Drake sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cain somewhat.
Cain is breathing heavily.
Cain shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Drake as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Cain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drake misses with a kick to the body.
Cain walks forward, straight into a front kick from Drake.
Drake throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Cain sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake scores with a push kick.
Drake throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
A nice leg kick lands there from Drake.
Drake lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Cain. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Both fighters circling a little - Drake finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Cain takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Cain takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Drake looks to land a body kick but Cain moved away.
Cain avoids the head kick by Drake.
Steven Drake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cain moves out of range of the body kick from Drake.
Drake throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Cain tries for a takedown but Drake sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Drake thows a body kick. Cain tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Cain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Drake sprawls well. Drake wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cain gets slowly back to his feet.
Drake throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cain looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cain tries to free his leg and advance position but Drake is retaining full guard.
Cain is working hard here to advance position.
Cain wants to control from the top but Drake keeps moving.
Cain pushing down on Drake's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cain takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Cain is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Drake really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cain tries to pass to full mount but Drake defends it.
Cain wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drake keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cain is nestled in close to Drake, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cain thows a huge punch but Drake dodges it nicely.

Cain is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Drake is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ricky Cain!
