PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Lawler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evans has chosen Everybody Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Lawler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Evans!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lawler closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lawler lands in his opponent's guard.
Lawler is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Evans wants to stand but Lawler is controlling the position.
Lawler might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lawler is in close to Evans's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Evans has his takedown stuffed

and Lawler moves into the clinch.

Lawler has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Evans regains guard immediately.

Evans working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lawler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lawler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Evans wants to stand but Lawler is controlling the position.

Evans is looking for a triangle but Lawler pushes his legs off easily.
Evans looks gassed!
Lawler wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Evans throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Evans is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lawler's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Evans wants to get back to his feet but Lawler passes into half guard.
Lawler prevents Evans from standing back up.
Lawler wants to take a breather but Evans is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lawler slows the pace down in half guard.
Lawler lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lawler lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evans pushes Lawler off looking to stand but Lawler dives back in and keeps control.
Lawler works his foot free and advances to mount.
Lawler connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lawler postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Evans looks a forlorn figure.
Evans is working to get back to half guard.
Lawler controlling the pace for now.

Lawler is in the full mount, landing strikes.


It looks like Greg Evans has been cut.

Lawler is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Evans can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Evans tries to buck Lawler off but he can't manage it.

That has opened up Greg Evans's cut even more.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Evans wants to get back to his feet.

Lawler jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Evans manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Greg Evans's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Greg Evans's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bob Lawler!
