PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Silla Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is CANON in D Korean Version (with gayageum) . Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Silla Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Terry Striker!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut there from Striker.
Striker just misses with a punch to the body.

Kim decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kim thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Striker trying to hold on to Kim's head to control him but Kim postures up.
Kim looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kim lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kim wants to pass to mount but Striker is defending the position.
Kim prevents Striker from improving his position.
Kim thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Striker's head.
Striker trying to hold on to Kim's head to control him but Kim postures up.
Kim not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Kim trying to control from half guard but Striker is working away.
Striker wants to improve his position but Kim is controlling well.
Kim wants to free his trapped foot but Striker is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Striker scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Kim lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Kim is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Striker's half guard.

Kim working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Striker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kim scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Striker is looking for a sweep. Kim is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kim wants to control from the top but Striker keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kim looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Striker steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kim. That one must have hurt.
Striker looks gassed!
Kim steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Striker.
Kim cracks the inside of Striker's front leg.
Kim shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Striker fails to land with a series of punches.
Striker takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Kim cracks a nice hook into Striker's ribs.
Kim throws a wild body kick that Striker sees coming a mile off.
Horrible takedown by Kim or perhaps it was just good defense by Striker which made him look bad.

Kim shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Striker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Striker is trying to keep Kim in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Striker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kim scoring with some ground and pound.
Striker wants to sweep here but Kim controlling him for the moment.
Kim stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Striker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kim working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kim accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kim throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Striker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kim.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silla Kim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Striker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Striker moves away.
Striker throws a head kick that half lands.
Kim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Striker moves out of range of the body kick.
Kim doesn't manage to clinch there - Striker circles away.
Kim pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Striker gets a clinch.
Kim tries a knee to the head but Striker blocks it.

Striker is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kim is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Striker to the mat. Striker regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Kim postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Striker not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kim trying to control the position from guard on top but Striker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kim's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kim throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kim.

Kim moves into the clinch.
Kim misses with a knee to the head.
Striker is trying to force a seperation but Kim has the dominant position.
Kim throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Striker blocks it with crossed arms.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kim tries to land a knee to the head but Striker blocks with his arms.
Striker misses with a punch to the body.
A left hand lands to the body for Striker.
Kim has a couple of punches blocked by Striker.
Striker looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A short uppercut from Kim.
Striker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kim tries a knee to the head but Striker blocks it.
Striker wants to break free but Kim has control.

Kim slows down the pace here.
Kim misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Striker.
Striker wants to get back to striking at distance but Kim won't allow it.

Striker on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Striker tries to break the clinch but Kim is controlling the position.

Striker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kim throws a lazy head kick
and Striker counters with a leg kick.

Kim misses with a knee to the head.
Striker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Striker wants to get back to striking at distance but Kim won't allow it.
Kim tries to land knees in the clinch but Striker avoids the damage to the body.
Striker tries to land a knee to the head but Kim blocks with his arms.

Striker swings wildly with an uppercut but Kim uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kim has Striker pressed against the cage, preventing Striker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Striker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Striker trying to control the position but instead, Kim has worked for underhooks and has pushed Striker into the cage.
Striker tries to circle away but Kim has him pinned against the cage.
Kim has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Striker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Kim trying to control the position but instead, Striker has worked for underhooks and has pushed Kim into the cage.
Striker tries to break free but Kim pushes him back against the cage.
Striker lands a hook that snaps the head of Kim backwards.

Terry Striker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Kim tries to clinch but Striker is having none of it.
Kim doesn't manage to clinch there - Striker circles away.

Kim is looking for a triangle but Striker pushes his legs off easily.

Silla Kim overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kim slips under a jab from Striker.
Kim slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Striker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Striker ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kim moves away.
Kim has a takedown stuffed.
Striker misses with a hook.

Kim gets a clinch.
Kim keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Striker's efforts to push away.
Striker wants to break the clinch but can't.
Striker swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Striker working hard to break the clinch.
Striker has had enough of the clinch but Kim keeps him there for the moment.

Kim unloads a knee to the mid-section. Striker lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Striker lands an uppercut.
Kim taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Kim is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Striker gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Nice body punch from Striker - that landed with a thud.

A frustrated look appears on Striker's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kim pulls Striker into guard.
Kim keeping moving, preventing Striker from controlling successfully.
Kim tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Striker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Striker wants to pass the guard but Kim is keeping the position.
Striker trying to control the position from guard on top but Kim is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Silla Kim showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kim has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
