PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Guy Downs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BG Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that BG Lee was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!

With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Guy Downs!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, BG Lee!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee slaps away a takedown attempt from Downs, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Downs is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lee sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Downs takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Downs shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Guy Downs. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight stays on the outside here - Lee looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Downs. Downs gets slowly back to his feet.
Lee throws a lazy right hand but Downs sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lee can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lee wants to control but Downs postures up.

Downs decides to stand back up.
Downs lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lee at a distance.
Downs slips a straight right by Lee.
Lee avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Downs counters with a single leg into guard. Lee didn't expect that.

Downs slips nicely into half guard.

Downs is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lee defends it well.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Downs is working for a kimura but Lee is defending it quite comfortably.
Downs tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lee.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lee is trying to maintain the position but Downs is very close to passing his half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Guy Downs will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Lee closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Downs can't get the takedown.
Downs drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lee's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

The referee is keeping an eye on Lee - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Downs wants to control but Lee is keeping him busy.
Downs passes the guard and advances to mount!

Downs has hold of Lee's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lee manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Lee tries to lock up and control but Downs gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Lee is trying to escape the mount but Downs keeps good control and instead manages to take Lee's back.

Lee is looking to improve his position but Downs isn't that keen on the idea.
Downs wants to take Lee's back here but Lee is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Lee is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Downs lets go of the hold and Lee can pop his arm back in it's socket.
