Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jamal Ungowa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Greco Roman! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ungowa throws a right and a left that Roman avoids nicely. Some wild striking there from Ungowa.
Ungowa misses with the combination.
Ungowa lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Roman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Ungowa pushes Roman up against the cage in a clinch. Ungowa with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Roman changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ungowa fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. Roman keeps the fight on the outside. Jamal Ungowa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Roman has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Roman dodges the punch combination from Ungowa.
Roman gets the takedown into side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Roman decides to stand back up. Roman steps back and let's Ungowa get back to his feet. Jamal Ungowa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ungowa throws a low kick but Roman avoids it. Ungowa throws a series of punches but Roman avoids them all with ease. Roman fails to land the takedown. Ungowa throws a right hand that Roman ducks under and follows up with a left that Roman also avoids with ease. Ungowa throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A right-left combo lands from Ungowa. Ungowa is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Ungowa misses with the combination.
Roman moves into range and clinches up with Ungowa. Roman has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ungowa is trying to keep an underhook but Roman manages to get the takedown into half guard. Ungowa tries to get to full guard but Roman has control of the leg. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Roman prevents Ungowa from improving his position. Ungowa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Roman's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Roman's back! Ungowa looking for the RNC. Ungowa doesn't have the hooks in and Roman manages to turn into his guard.
Ungowa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Roman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Roman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roman won't allow Ungowa to sweep him here. Ungowa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Roman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Roman shoots for a takedown but Ungowa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Jamal Ungowa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greco Roman. Roman keeps the fight on the outside. Ungowa looks to land a combination but Roman avoids it well. A chopping leg kick lands by Ungowa. Ungowa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Ungowa has had enough of the clinch but Roman keeps him there for the moment. Ungowa misses with a knee strike.
Roman has Ungowa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ungowa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Ungowa trying to land knees to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Roman has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ungowa regains guard immediately. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Roman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Roman slows the pace down. Roman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Ungowa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Roman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Ungowa! This has been an exciting period of action! Roman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ungowa is looking to escape. Ungowa tries to reverse the position but Roman maintains control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Roman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Ungowa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jamal Ungowa will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Nice takedown defense from Ungowa. No joy for Roman on that attempt. Ungowa moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Roman avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ungowa throws a combination. Roman tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Ungowa connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Roman tumbling to the canvas! Ungowa pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Roman was done - good stoppage!
