The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assassin instigates a clinch.
Assassin jumps guard and drags Gracie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Assassin is keeping the position.
Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Assassin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Assassin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Assassin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gracie.
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Assassin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well.
Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Gracie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches.
Gracie is pressed up against the cage. Assassin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gracie down to the mat. Gracie avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gracie throws the left hand but Assassin avoids the punch easily.

and Assassin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Assassin.

Assassin is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Assassin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Assassin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Assassin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gracie rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Assassin's guard! Nice work there by Gracie!

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Assassin dives on top into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Assassin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Assassin looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Assassin dives on top into guard.
Assassin advances to half guard.

Gracie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Assassin is working away from the top position though.
Assassin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Assassin wants to pass the guard but Gracie is defending well.
Assassin is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gracie!
Assassin moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gracie has worked his arm free - good work by Gracie!
Assassin wants to take a breather but Gracie manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Assassin.

Assassin has gone for a leg lock! Gracie slips out almost immediately though and dives into Assassin's guard.
Assassin being controlled here, momentarily.
Assassin wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Assassin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gracie's guard now.

Gracie misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Gracie tries to score with some ground and pound. Assassin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Assassin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Assassin.
Assassin swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Assassin's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
