PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Apollo Hades (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sol Goldstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Goldstein has chosen Nothing to Prove by H2O as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Apollo Hades!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sol Goldstein!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hades lands a nice shot to the body.
Goldstein changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hades tries to avoid it but Goldstein manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hades to the ground. Hades escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hades lands a with a good body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Goldstein is defended easily by Hades.
Goldstein ducks under a wild hook from Hades.
Goldstein fails with the takedown.
Apollo Hades has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sol Goldstein.
Hades scores with the left hand. Goldstein knows he should have avoided that one.
Hades throws a looping overhand right but Goldstein ducks down to avoid it.
Goldstein shoots in and drives through. Hades sprawls well.
Goldstein shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hades as he avoids it easily.

Goldstein looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hades is fending him off so far but Goldstein persists. Nope, Hades circles away and we're back to standing.

Sol Goldstein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Goldstein tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hades sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Goldstein somewhat.
Hades ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Goldstein moves away.

Goldstein throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hades's waist but Hades gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Goldstein off to one side.
Hades throws a nice outside leg kick.
Hades throws a body punch but Goldstein moves out of range.
Hades fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hades keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Goldstein takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Goldstein is trying desperately to land a takedown but Hades is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Goldstein.
Nice shot lands for Hades.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Apollo Hades dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Goldstein will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hades smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
A combination from Goldstein does no damage.
Goldstein shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hades pinned against the cage. Hades gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Goldstein avoids the body shot from Hades.

Goldstein misses with a few strikes there.
Sol Goldstein is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Goldstein uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hades.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Goldstein might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Hades has got the better of the exchanges.
Goldstein shoots in but no luck this time.

and Hades counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hades lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

and Hades counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Apollo Hades dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hades would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Goldstein is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Goldstein looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hades manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Goldstein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hades swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Goldstein is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sol Goldstein has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goldstein won't allow Hades to sweep him here.
Goldstein thows a big elbow that misses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hades swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Goldstein counters with a takedown into side control.
Apollo Hades is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Goldstein postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hades pushes Goldstein away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Goldstein gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sol Goldstein comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hades has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
