Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Jones!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
Downey lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Downey tries for a takedown but Jones circles away easily

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Downey looking to control.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Downey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Downey trying to control the position.
Downey tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Downey wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Downey is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Downey is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Downey throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones is pushing down on Downey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Downey is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through.
Downey is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Downey is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Downey avoid being mounted?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Downey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Downey wants to get back to his feet but Jones drags him back down.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones advances to full mount.
Downey throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Downey is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones won't let Downey get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jones stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

and Jones counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Downey's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Downey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Downey is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Downey's back instead.
Downey tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Jones get's back to his feet.
Chris Downey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
Downey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Downey somewhat.
Chris Downey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Downey connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Frank Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

You can see the frustration on Downey's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Jones is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
