Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Harnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harnett moves in looking to clinch but Ortiz pushes him off.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Harnett wants to stand back up but Ortiz manages to pass into side control.
Harnett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ortiz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The strikes coming from Ortiz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Harnett tries to bench press Ortiz off him but Ortiz keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortiz trying to control the position but Harnett is working away.

Ortiz tries for a kimura but Harnett is defending well.
Harnett is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ortiz off and has taken his back!

Ortiz tries to break free.
Ortiz trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Ortiz turns into Harnett and is now in his guard.

Ortiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Harnett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ortiz has managed to get both his arms back between Harnett's legs - danger averted.
Harnett is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Harnett seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ortiz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ortiz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Harnett pulls his head out easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ortiz misses with a series of wild punches.
Harnett tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ortiz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Harnett sprawls well. Harnett wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ortiz gets slowly back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Harnett throws a left and a right that both miss

and Ortiz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harnett wants to improve his position but Ortiz is controlling well.
Harnett is working hard here to advance position.

Ortiz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Mike Ortiz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Harnett gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ortiz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ortiz wants to control from the top but Harnett keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Harnett keeping moving, preventing Ortiz from controlling successfully.
Ortiz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Harnett kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Ortiz is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harnett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ortiz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Harnett doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ortiz counters with a single leg into guard. Harnett didn't expect that.

Ortiz drops back looking for a leg! Harnett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Harnett manages to kick Ortiz off! Ortiz jumps back into Harnett's guard.

Ortiz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ortiz stands up over Harnett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ortiz stops Harnett from standing up.
Harnett not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ortiz trying to control the position from guard on top but Harnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Harnett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ortiz on the ground.
Ortiz throws a big right hand that misses.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ortiz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ortiz in particular looking to stall.

Ortiz slips a nice elbow through Harnett's hands, connecting with Harnett's forehead.
Ortiz wants to free his trapped foot but Harnett is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Ortiz trying to control from half guard but Harnett is working away.
Harnett is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ortiz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ortiz's back!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ortiz tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Ortiz is squirming around, avoiding Harnett's attempts to control the action.
Ortiz regains half guard.
Harnett wants to free his trapped foot but Ortiz is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Ortiz wants to control but Harnett is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Harnett is trying to control. Ortiz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mike Ortiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ortiz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Harnett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Harnett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Harnett!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Harnett is trying to get an arm triangle but Ortiz is defending well.
Harnett wants to take a breather but Ortiz manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Harnett.

Ortiz is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Harnett frees his head nicely. Oh but Ortiz has switched to an armbar! Harnett is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
