Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riley Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tatsuya Shibata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel comes to the cage accompanied by Red Hot Chili Peppers - Don't Forget Me. Shibata has chosen The American National Anthem as his entrance music. Riley Daniel has the better chin. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Riley Daniel! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tatsuya Shibata! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daniel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Shibata tries to buck Daniel off but Daniel is having none of it. Shibata is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Daniel looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Shibata is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Daniel trying to control the position but Shibata is working away. Daniel working the ground and pound. Shibata tries to bench press Daniel off him but Daniel keeps the position. Shibata is pushing Daniel's head away, looking to escape. Daniel manages to hold on to the position though. Shibata looks to move to half guard but instead Daniel has passed into mount! Damn! Shibata wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shibata is looking to get to half guard. Daniel lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Daniel landing strikes from the mount and Shibata is in trouble! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shibata can do anything to dispel that myth. Shibata is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Daniel avoids the attempt from Shibata to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Daniel swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
