PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ogono Reas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davi Sacura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reas has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ogono Reas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Davi Sacura!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sacura shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Reas defends it nicely.

Sacura gets a takedown into half guard.
Sacura sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Reas defending well though.
Reas wants to control but Sacura is keeping busy.
Reas is breathing heavily.
Reas is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sacura scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sacura wants to take a breather but Reas is having none of it.
Sacura throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Reas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sacura.

Sacura escapes and gets back to his feet.

Sacura scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Sacura takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Sacura controlling the pace.

Sacura is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Reas sees it coming and defends easily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sacura connects with a nice short shot to Reas's temple.
Reas is staying active underneath Sacura, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sacura is nestled in close to Reas, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sacura wants to pass the guard but Reas is defending well.
Sacura has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sacura working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Reas is trying to control but can't.
Reas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sacura is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Reas is staying active underneath Sacura, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Reas gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sacura postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Reas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sacura, into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sacura is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sacura working for a triangle but Reas defends it easily.
Reas wants to control from the top but Sacura keeps moving.

Sacura working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sacura looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Sacura is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Davi Sacura dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sacura is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sacura looks for a takedown but Reas sprawls well.
Reas wants to clinch but Sacura slips to the side

and Sacura counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Reas!
Davi Sacura has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sacura trying to control but Reas is having none of it.

Reas tries to hold on but Sacura pushes him away.
Sacura can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Reas is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reas tries to lock up and control but Sacura gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Reas can't escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sacura cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sacura wants to control the pace but Reas is squirming around nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Reas is desperately trying to improve his position but Sacura has a good base and remains in mount.

Sacura swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Reas is now in Sacura's guard. A big mistake from Sacura there, giving up the dominant position!
Reas lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Reas forces his way into half guard.

Reas is trying to control. Sacura wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Reas wants to pass the guard but Sacura is defending well.

Reas is trying to control the action in half guard but Sacura is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Reas stands up from half guard.
Reas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Sacura counters with a shoot takedown. Reas fights it but they end up in guard.

Reas wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Sacura is now in half guard.

Sacura is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reas defends it well.
Reas makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Reas.
Reas wants to stand up but Sacura is controlling him.
Sacura trying to control the position from guard on top but Reas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davi Sacura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sacura doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Reas counters by clinching up.

Sacura has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Reas uses from the top position.
Sacura lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reas!

Sacura has his feet on Reas's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Davi Sacura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reas is defended easily by Sacura.

Reas has managed to clinch.
Sacura is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Sacura trying to land knees to the body.
Sacura jumps guard but Reas stands there with Sacura around his waist. Sacura gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Sacura is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reas is controlling him.
Reas has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sacura is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Reas wants to control from the top but Sacura keeps moving.
Reas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sacura is trying to keep Reas in close.
Sacura tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ogono Reas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Davi Sacura is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sacura is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

I've got Sacura winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
