PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cory Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lenord Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lenord Marshall struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Lenord Marshall is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cory Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lenord Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Allen as he jumps to the side.
A nice leg kick lands there from Allen.
Lenord Marshall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Marshall is defended easily by Allen.
Marshall takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Marshall looks gassed!
Allen moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Marshall misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cory Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lenord Marshall.
Allen fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Marshall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Allen as he jumps to the side.
Marshall shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marshall stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Allen.
Allen works Marshall's body with a nice hook.
Marshall takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Allen connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Marshall's hands.
Marshall is trying desperately to land a takedown but Allen is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Marshall.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Allen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Allen pushes down on Marshall's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Allen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Allen wants to pass to mount but Marshall is defending the position.
Ground and pound from Allen.
Allen slips a nice elbow through Marshall's hands, connecting with Marshall's forehead.

Allen wants to pass the guard but Marshall is defending well.

Allen stands up and beckons Marshall to join him on the feet.
Allen lands a lovely overhand right.
Marshall doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Good shot there by Allen.

Allen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Allen lands in his opponent's guard.
Allen's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Allen throwing strikes from guard but Marshall blocks nicely.

Allen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marshall is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marshall has escaped and now he's on top!

Allen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Allen pulls Marshall in close to his closed guard and prevents Marshall from doing any damage or advancing position.
Marshall trying to control the position from guard on top but Allen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marshall won't allow Allen to get back to his feet.
Allen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Marshall on the ground.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Allen keeping moving, preventing Marshall from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Marshall doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Allen to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cory Allen dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Allen lands a body shot.
Marshall slips a jab and a cross from Allen.
Allen throws a combination. Marshall tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Allen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Donk. Allen catches Marshall right on the button with a cross.
Allen lands with a thumping leg kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Allen!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Allen smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Good leg kick by Allen there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Allen scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Allen connects with a crisp jab.
Marshall is breathing heavily.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Allen.

Allen works over Marshall's head and body with a nice combination.
Allen lands a jab-cross combination.
Marshall takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Allen lands a nice looking kick to the body. Marshall takes a step back to recover.
Good standup being displayed there by Allen as he connects with a hook.
Allen lands a two punch combo.
Allen tests Marshall's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Allen throws a quick inside leg kick.
Marshall takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Nice uppercut there from Allen.
Allen looks to land a combination. Marshall sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
A chopping leg kick lands by Allen.
Allen works Marshall's body with a nice hook.
Allen looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Allen moves into range and connects with a jab.
Allen lands with a kick to the temple. Marshall shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Allen connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nice body punch from Allen.
Cory Allen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Marshall gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Allen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marshall can do to turn this around?
Allen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Allen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Marshall is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Allen advances to half guard.

Marshall actively working from the bottom here.

Allen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marshall defends it well.
Marshall is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Allen uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Marshall has time to react.
Allen stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Marshall bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cory Allen dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Allen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Allen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Cory Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Marshall wants to improve his position but Allen is controlling well.

Allen wants to work for an arm triangle but Marshall is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Allen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marshall does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Marshall is trying to get back to full guard.

Allen is keen to just control but Marshall is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Allen counters with a single leg into guard. Marshall didn't expect that.

Allen is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Marshall has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Allen is looking to defend but Marshall has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Allen! Marshall pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Allen taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Lenord Marshall!
