Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Corey Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jony Morales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas comes to the cage accompanied by Break by Three Days Grace. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Corey Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jony Morales!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Morales looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Thomas decides to return to a standing position.

Thomas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Morales looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Thomas landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thomas in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Thomas cracks Morales with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Morales takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Thomas tries to advance to mount but Morales denies him.
Thomas looks up at the clock and then as Morales takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Thomas smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Thomas tries to move to mount but Morales blocks the move with his legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thomas stands up and beckons Morales to his feet.

Thomas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thomas lands in his opponent's guard.
Thomas trying to control the position from guard on top but Morales is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Thomas passes Morales's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas is controlling the pace.
Morales has hold of Thomas's hands but Thomas slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Thomas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Thomas looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Thomas moves into full mount! Morales won't be happy about that!
Morales working to try and regain half guard.

Thomas stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Morales has his takedown stuffed

and Thomas holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Thomas drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Morales gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morales blocks an elbow strike.
Morales being controlled against the cage.
Thomas jumps guard but Morales stands there with Thomas around his waist. Thomas gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Morales misses with a knee strike.
Thomas drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Morales gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corey Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Thomas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Morales tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Thomas counters with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corey Thomas dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Thomas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Morales swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thomas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Thomas fails with a takedown attempt.
Thomas feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Morales's calf.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Thomas fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Thomas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Morales tries a head kick but it misses.

Thomas clinches.
Thomas can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corey Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Thomas breaks from the clinch.

Thomas tries to clinch up.
Morales tries for a takedown but Thomas circles away easily

and Thomas counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Morales!
Thomas postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Morales looks a forlorn figure.
Morales is squirming around, avoiding Thomas's attempts to control the action.
Thomas wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Thomas tries to control but Morales wriggling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Thomas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Morales has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Morales!
Morales stops Thomas from standing up.
Thomas controls Morales momentarily but Morales frees himself.
Morales wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.

Thomas is working an open guard so Morales takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Morales shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Morales is working for a submission of some sort.
Morales prevents Thomas from improving his position.
Morales is trying to control the action in half guard but Thomas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thomas is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Corey Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Morales trying to control the action but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Thomas trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Thomas tries to hold on but Morales pushes him away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Corey Thomas will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Thomas closes the distance and pushes Morales back into the cage.

Thomas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Thomas scores with a takedown into Morales's guard.

Thomas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thomas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Thomas's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Morales is working an open guard so Thomas takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Thomas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thomas lands in his opponent's guard.

Thomas has gone for a leg lock! Morales slips out almost immediately though and dives into Thomas's guard.
Morales wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.
Thomas is pulling down on Morales's head to control his posture.

Thomas keeping moving, preventing Morales from controlling successfully.

Thomas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Thomas is trying to keep Morales in close.
Morales wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Morales darts in and clinches Thomas up against the cage.
Thomas lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Morales backwards.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Thomas as Morales tries to tie him up.
Thomas is pushing Morales up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Morales is trying to break the clinch but Thomas has him pressed against the cage.

Morales jumps guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Morales won't let him.
Thomas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Thomas looking to sit in guard and control but Morales gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Thomas trying to keep a closed guard but Morales is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Corey Thomas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Thomas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
