The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendoza throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Higham shoots in but no luck this time. Higham fails with the takedown. Mendoza defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Higham. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keith Higham. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mendoza throws a series of punches but Higham avoids them all with ease. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendoza rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Higham moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Mendoza throws a big shot that misses. Higham gets a takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Higham is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mendoza defends it well. Higham works his foot free and advances to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Higham working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Mendoza is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Higham working for a submission but Mendoza is keeping him at bay. Higham looking for a guillotine from mount but Mendoza is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendoza tries to reverse the position but Higham maintains control. Higham has isolated one of Mendoza's arms. Mendoza looking to fight him off but Higham twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
