Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny McBraddish! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Penn! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McBraddish with a jab. McBraddish scores with a hook to the body. Penn takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Penn closes the distance and clinches up with McBraddish, looking for a takedown. Penn pushes McBraddish against the cage but McBraddish circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Penn takes a shot right to the bread basket. Penn walks into a straight right hand from McBraddish. McBraddish will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McBraddish listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. A cross from McBraddish lands. Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McBraddish sprawls well. McBraddish wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet. Penn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McBraddish swivels and escapes. Johnny McBraddish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn. McBraddish throws a leg kick which misses Penn's front leg but catches the back leg as Penn tries to avoid it. No luck for Penn with that takedown attempt. Nice uppercut there from McBraddish. Penn fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Penn looks gassed! McBraddish with a jab. McBraddish changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. McBraddish lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A jab from McBraddish finds it's way through Penn's defenses.
Penn is rocked! Wow, both these guys are really going for it! McBraddish drops Penn with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Penn! McBraddish dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johnny McBraddish!
