The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Steelneck to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Maia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steelneck defends well.

Steelneck fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Maia sprawls well initially but Steelneck persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Steelneck slips a nice elbow through Maia's hands, connecting with Maia's forehead.

Steelneck is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Maia is just riding it out for now. Steelneck eventually gives up the hold.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Steelneck cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Steelneck has hold of Maia's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Maia manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
