Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ali Hussien! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Havok Merle! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Merle looking to sit in guard and control but Hussien gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hussien wanted to stand there but Merle had control of the position. Hussien trying to control but Merle is working from the bottom. Merle is working an open guard so Hussien takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Hussien throws a right and a left that Merle avoids nicely. The fight stays on the outside here - Hussien looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hussien misses with the combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hussien gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Merle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hussien won't be happy with that. Merle staying calm. Hussien sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Merle not landing any meaningful shots this time. Merle is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hussien is staying active underneath Merle, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Hussien is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Still in half guard, Merle seems content to control. Merle is pressing down on Hussien's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hussien is holding on for now. Merle is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hussien is just riding it out for now. Merle eventually gives up the hold. Merle seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hussien really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hussien is defending against the submission attempts here by Merle.
Merle looks gassed! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hussien looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Merle is looking for a kimura here.
Hussien pushes Merle off looking to stand but Merle dives back in and keeps control.
Hussien is refusing to be controlled, as Merle sits in half guard. Merle in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hussien tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Merle!
