Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wookash Skylark! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Santiago! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santiago shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Skylark is trying to defend but Santiago finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Skylark trying to control but Santiago postures up.
Santiago with the ground and pound but Skylark uses the opportunity to regain guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Santiago's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Skylark escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santiago gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Skylark is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Santiago postures up and lands a big shot to Skylark's brow. Santiago decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Skylark, up you get! Skylark displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santiago. Santiago shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Skylark as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Skylark with a poor takedown and Santiago counters with a shoot takedown. Skylark fights it but they end up in guard. Santiago won't allow Skylark to sweep him here. Skylark wants to stand and escape but Santiago is having none of it. Skylark thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Skylark trying to keep a closed guard but Santiago is proving a slippery customer.
Skylark is breathing heavily. Santiago working some strikes from top position. Santiago gets to his feet - Skylark follows without any prompting. Santiago decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Santiago is thwarting Skylark's attempts to control the position. Santiago has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Skylark wants to improve his position but Santiago is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Skylark tries to clinch up and Santiago counters with a takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Skylark tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Santiago wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Santiago swings around for an armbar but Skylark sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Santiago's guard. Santiago is trying to keep Skylark in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Santiago throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Skylark won't allow Santiago to sweep him here. Santiago keeping moving, preventing Skylark from controlling successfully.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Skylark misses with a takedown attempt and Santiago counters with a nice double leg into side control. Skylark won't be happy with that. Santiago passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Skylark!

Santiago tries to control but Skylark wriggling away. Skylark tries to get back to half guard but can't. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Santiago landing strikes from the mount. Skylark manages to regain half guard. Good work. Skylark taking some punishment here, with Santiago in his half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Santiago dominated that round. That's time! Skylark's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Skylark tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Santiago counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Santiago sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Skylark defending well though. Skylark lands a couple of sideways elbows. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Santiago lands a nice short elbow. Skylark tries to kick Santiago off but Santiago keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santiago is looking to pass Skylark's guard but actually Skylark recovers to full guard. Skylark keeping moving, preventing Santiago from controlling successfully. Santiago gets to his feet. Skylark looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Skylark wants to clinch and Santiago holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Skylark is trying to drag Santiago to the mat but Santiago just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Skylark tries to pull guard but Santiago won't allow it.

Skylark tries to clinch up but Santiago circles away and keeps his distance. Santiago shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Santiago lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Santiago looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. BOOM! Santiago connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Skylark is bucking up trying to escape but Santiago cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Santiago avoids the attempt from Skylark to control. Skylark is looking to get to half guard. Santiago lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Skylark hang on? Santiago is in the full mount, landing strikes. Santiago putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Skylark wants to control but Santiago is having none of it. Santiago landing strikes from the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santiago with good strikes from the mount here! Skylark manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes. Santiago not landing any meaningful shots this time. Skylark wants to control but Santiago is keeping busy and won't allow it. Santiago is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Santiago passes into side control, despite Skylark's attempt to control the position.
Skylark tries to strike but it doesn't land. Santiago wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Skylark, who protects the arm well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Santiago looking to control but instead Skylark has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Santiago is looking for a kimura here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Skylark instigates a clinch. Skylark is trying to break the clinch but Santiago has him pressed against the cage. Skylark tries a knee to the head but Santiago blocks it.

Skylark changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Santiago fights it off and pushes away nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Santiago showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth. Santiago tries to strike from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Santiago is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Santiago uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Skylark rushes Santiago and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Santiago ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Santiago no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Skylark wanted to stand there but Santiago had control of the position. Santiago has Skylark pulled in close to control his posture. Santiago pushes Skylark off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Santiago closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Santiago lands in his opponent's guard. Santiago stands up from Skylark's guard - Santiago perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Skylark fails with an attempt to clinch.
Santiago scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Skylark takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Santiago landing strikes. Santiago cracks Skylark with a big right hand but Skylark just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Skylark is not content to let Santiago control the position. Santiago working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santiago decides to stand back up. Santiago steps back and let's Skylark get back to his feet. Santiago pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. The fight stays on the outside here - Skylark looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Santiago closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Skylark can't do much from the bottom here. Santiago grinds an elbow into Skylark's temple. Santiago scores with punches from side control. Santiago in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Santiago stands up and beckons Skylark to his feet. Skylark looks to throw the jab but Santiago is out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santiago with a poor takedown so Skylark counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Skylark trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom. Santiago throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Skylark has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Santiago is proving hard to escape from. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Skylark trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! Carlos Santiago comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Santiago winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
