Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emalianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matei Buglosi! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Emalianenko fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! Emalianenko gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Buglosi to score an easy takedown into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emalianenko trying to control the position.
Buglosi scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Buglosi looking to sit in guard and control but Emalianenko gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Emalianenko gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Emalianenko misses with a looping left.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emalianenko tries to close the distance and clinch up but Buglosi swats him away and circles back towards the center. Emalianenko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Buglosi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Emalianenko is staying active underneath Buglosi, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Emalianenko lands with a few short shots to the body. Emalianenko wants to get back to full guard but Buglosi has mounted him! Emalianenko wants to hold on but Buglosi pushes him away. Buglosi goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Emalianenko is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Buglosi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emalianenko is controlling him. Emalianenko has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Buglosi is proving hard to escape from. Emalianenko looking to pass the guard. Buglosi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emalianenko wants to stand and escape but instead Buglosi has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Buglosi passes Emalianenko's left leg - he's now in half guard. Emalianenko trying to hold on to Buglosi's head to control him but Buglosi postures up.
Buglosi prevents Emalianenko from improving his position. Buglosi wants to take a breather but Emalianenko is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Emalianenko is looking to improve his position.
Buglosi decides to stand and escape the position. Buglosi moves out of range as Emalianenko throws a body kick.
Buglosi swats away the attempt to clinch by Emalianenko. Buglosi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Buglosi is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matei Buglosi dominated that round. The cut man is working on Matei Buglosi's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Emalianenko tries for a takedown but Buglosi circles away easily and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Emalianenko takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Emalianenko misses with a head kick.
Buglosi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Emalianenko swats him away and circles back towards the center. Emalianenko doesn't succeed with the takedown and Buglosi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Buglosi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Emalianenko trying to hold on to Buglosi's head to control him but Buglosi postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Emalianenko tries to get to full guard but Buglosi has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buglosi wants to free his trapped foot but Emalianenko is holding on for dear life with his legs. Emalianenko is trying to stand back up but Buglosi is controlling him
Buglosi is looking to stall here but Emalianenko recovers full guard. Emalianenko looking for a guillotine here but Buglosi defends easily.
Buglosi trying to control the position from guard on top but Emalianenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Emalianenko with a poor takedown and Buglosi counters with a slapping leg kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emalianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him. Emalianenko circles away from the clinch attempt and Emalianenko counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Emalianenko. Buglosi wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Emalianenko manages to pass to side control. Still in half guard, Emalianenko seems content to control. Buglosi is looking for a sweep. Emalianenko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emalianenko stands up out of the half guard. Buglosi misses with a takedown attempt - Emalianenko sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Emalianenko has his takedown stuffed and Buglosi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Emalianenko is looking for a triangle but Buglosi pushes his legs off easily.
Emalianenko wants to get back to his feet but Buglosi is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Emalianenko keeping moving, preventing Buglosi from controlling successfully. Emalianenko is working an open guard so Buglosi takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Emalianenko fails with the takedown and Buglosi counters by moving into the clinch. Buglosi wants a takedown but no success here.
Emalianenko is working for takedown but Buglosi is calmly controlling the position for now. Buglosi pulls guard. Buglosi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Emalianenko moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Buglosi should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Emalianenko keeping moving, preventing Buglosi from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matei Buglosi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Matei Buglosi's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Emalianenko darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Emalianenko wants to stand up but Buglosi has a hold of him and won't allow it. Buglosi is trying to maintain the position but Emalianenko is very close to passing his half guard. Emalianenko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buglosi is in trouble now - Emalianenko has advanced to mount! Buglosi really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Emalianenko stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Emalianenko throws out a leg kick but Buglosi moves out of range and Emalianenko only half commits. Emalianenko throws a lazy head kick and Buglosi counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Emalianenko's guard now. Emalianenko has his hands on Buglosi's head, controlling the position. Emalianenko keeping moving, preventing Buglosi from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emalianenko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Buglosi. Emalianenko controlling Buglosi's posture. Buglosi won't allow Emalianenko to sweep him here. Buglosi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emalianenko swivels though and keeps the full guard. Emalianenko manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Buglosi manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emalianenko wants to pass the guard but Buglosi is keeping the position. Buglosi being controlled here, momentarily. Emalianenko has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Emalianenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Emalianenko tries to stand but Buglosi is controlling from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Emalianenko postures up.
Emalianenko is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Matei Buglosi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Emalianenko won't allow Buglosi to sweep him here.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fedor Emalianenko. Well Buglosi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
