Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aladin Carpet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Cope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carpet comes to the cage accompanied by Clint Mansell - Requiem for a Dream Remix . Cope has chosen You're Going Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aladin Carpet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Cope! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carpet checks a low kick from Cope. Mike Cope seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cope cracks Carpet with an open hand slap. Cope throws a solid leg kick but Carpet takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Cope. Cope lands a jab to the nose. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Carpet checks a leg kick. Cope lands a head shot. Carpet shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Carpet is figuring out what he wants to do next. Carpet wants to work for an arm triangle but Cope is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Carpet works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carpet is trying to move to mount but Cope reverses beautifully and ends up in Carpet's guard. Cope postures up in Carpet's guard and throws a big left but Carpet blocks it. Cope stays in close to Carpet's body and controls the position. Carpet wants to hit a switch here but Cope passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Carpet there! Cope misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cope wants to control but Carpet has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Carpet is controlling Cope's trapped leg to prevent Cope from advancing to side control. Cope thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Carpet to regain full guard. Cope tries to free his leg and advance position but Carpet is retaining full guard. Cope gets to his feet - Carpet follows without any prompting. Carpet moves out of range of the strikes. Carpet shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cope defends it nicely. Cope connects with a crisp jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cope looks to land a right hand but Carpet moved out of range. Cope misses with a low kick. Cope displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Carpet throws out the jab. Carpet dives in and grabs Cope's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cope pushes down on Carpet's head and hops out. Cope throws a nice inside leg kick. Cope misses with a low kick. Cope chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A punch lands to the side of Cope 's head but he takes it in his stride.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Cope!
Cope slips under a jab. Carpet uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cope. Cope clobbers Carpet with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Cope misses with a low kick.
Carpet misses with a double jab
letting Cope counter with a right hand. Carpet tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cope was well out of range. Poor timing from Carpet. Carpet showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cope.
Cope misses with a straight right. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Cope dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
A slow jab from Cope misses its intended target. Cope misses with a low kick as Carpet jumps back. Cope connects with a crisp jab. Carpet defending well as Cope loads up on a big left hand. Aladin Carpet is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Carpet moves away from the strike by Cope. A cross from Cope lands. Cope throws a nice outside leg kick. Cope moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Carpet has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Cope throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Carpet misses with the combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. A good leg kick by Cope. Cope with a jab. Cope connects with a single shot there. Cope shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Cope has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Cope throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carpet on the side of the head. Nice body punch from Cope. Cope lands a jab to Carpet's midsection. Nice cross by Cope. A punch combination from Cope misses. Cope lands with an uppercut that bounces Carpet off the cage and back into rage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cope misses with a wild combination.
Cope tries to score with a low kick but Carpet moves his leg out of the way. Cope throws a leg kick which misses Carpet's front leg but catches the back leg as Carpet tries to avoid it. A jab lands there for Cope. Cope avoids the head kick by Carpet.
Cope throws a shot from downtown. Carpet moves away and avoids it. Cope with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Carpet bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. No joy there for Cope, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mike Cope is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cope shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Cope bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Cope misses with a straight left. Cope scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Cope connects with a good right hand that stumbles Carpet. Carpet circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Cope swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Carpet checks a low kick from Cope. Cope keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Carpet. Cope fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Carpet checks it well. Cope scores with the left hand. Carpet knows he should have avoided that one.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cope throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Carpet checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Cope tries to score with a low kick but Carpet moves his leg out of the way. Carpet walks into a jab. Cope fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Carpet checks it well. Cope loads up on a big right hand but Carpet slips the punch. Cope tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Carpet is able to avoid easily. Cope throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Carpet throws a series of punches but Cope avoids them all with ease. Cope throws a leg kick but Carpet moved away. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cope lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Carpet has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Carpet and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Cope showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Carpet connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Cope lands with a straight right. Carpet didn't see that one coming. Cope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A solid leg kick lands there for Cope.
Carpet is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Carpet throws a head kick that misses and Cope counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Cope lands a with a good body shot. Cope moves into range and connects with a jab. Carpet slips a straight right by Cope. Carpet moves out of range of the strikes. Cope misses with a looping right. No joy there for Cope, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cope misses with a low kick. Cope pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Cope throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Carpet sees it coming and avoids it easily. Carpet ducks right into an uppercut from Cope. Cope jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cope fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Nice shot by Cope. Carpet steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cope. Cope misses with a low kick.
Cope wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carpet misses with an uppercut. Cope saw that one coming. Carpet waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Cope. Carpet checks the leg kick nicely there.
Cope misses with the combination.
Carpet shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carpet was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Cope tries to control Carpet's body but Carpet pushes him off. Cope squirms to his side and now Carpet has his back! Cope trying to control but not successfully. Carpet is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Cope is defending well though. Carpet let's go of the attempt for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carpet tries to keep control of the position but Cope is staying busy. Carpet somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back. Aladin Carpet has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Carpet seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Cope's chin but Cope turns very nicely into Carpet's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Cope.
Cope trying to control the position from guard on top but Carpet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cope stays in close to Carpet's body and controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Cope wants to control from the top but Carpet keeps moving. Carpet keeping full guard, as Cope tries to pass.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cope loads up on a big right hand but Carpet slips the punch. Mike Cope is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Cope scores with a body shot.
And that's the end of the fight! Mike Cope comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Cope winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
