Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Canan Bokcalan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Familia! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Familia showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Bokcalan.
Bokcalan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Familia manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Bokcalan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bokcalan is working hard here to advance position. Familia is trying to control the action in half guard but Bokcalan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Familia is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Bokcalan has managed to free his arm - good work. Bokcalan tries to get to full guard but Familia has control of the leg. Bokcalan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Bokcalan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bokcalan misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Familia passes to side control. Bokcalan tries to buck Familia off but Familia is having none of it. Bokcalan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Familia passes the guard and advances to mount! Bokcalan is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bokcalan is trying desperately to improve position. Familia working for a guillotine from mount but Bokcalan is in no mood to give up. Familia is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bokcalan is surviving well by controlling Familia's body position as best he can. Bokcalan is trying desperately to improve position. Familia looking to finish Bokcalan with some ground and pound. This is bad for Bokcalan! Familia has hold of Bokcalan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bokcalan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Bokcalan trying to punch from the bottom. They're landing but they're really not going to hurt Familia. Familia with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Bokcalan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Familia raining down shots from the mount! The referee warns Bokcalan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Bokcalan is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bokcalan is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Familia locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Bokcalan is forced to tap!
