Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kyle Norris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Watt! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watt shoots for a takedown but Norris saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Norris scores a takedown into full mount! Norris lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Watt hang on? Norris is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Watt is surviving well by controlling Norris's body position as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Norris looking to control but Watt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Watt tries to hold on but Norris postures up. Norris has hold of Watt's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Watt manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Norris looking to control but Watt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Norris prevents Watt from getting the reversal. Norris goes for an armbar but Watt turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Watt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Watt passes Norris's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Watt not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Watt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Norris knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Watt missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Watt trying to control from half guard but Norris is working away. Norris is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Norris manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Watt stopping the sweep attempt from Norris.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Watt shoots and misses and Norris counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Norris is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watt won't allow Norris to pass to mount. Norris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Watt keeps working. Norris landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Norris in particular looking to stall. Watt moves into full guard.
Watt looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Watt manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Norris manages to get himself to full guard.
Watt throws a sloppy strike and Norris has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Watt is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Norris!
