Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Irfani Ahmad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Appleby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Irfani Ahmad! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Appleby! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ahmad looks for a takedown but Appleby sprawls well. Appleby scores with a takedown into Ahmad's guard. Appleby stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ahmad swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Appleby stops Ahmad from standing up. Ahmad trying to keep a closed guard but Appleby is proving a slippery customer.
Ahmad being controlled here, momentarily. Appleby has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ahmad is proving hard to escape from. Ahmad wants to sweep here but Appleby controlling him for the moment. Ahmad is pulling down on Appleby's head. It's preventing any offense from Appleby, at least for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Appleby preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Appleby gets to his feet - Ahmad follows without any prompting. Ahmad shoots and misses and Appleby counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ahmad! Ahmad could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Appleby with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Appleby with shots to the head and body - Ahmad looks very uncomfortable down there. Ahmad tries to lock up and control but Appleby gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Appleby punching from mount but Ahmad doing a good job of avoiding damage. Ahmad tries to hold on but Appleby postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Ahmad that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ahmad is looking to improve his position but Appleby isn't that keen on the idea. Ahmad wants to hold on but Appleby pushes him away. Appleby lands a heavy elbow. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Appleby avoids the attempt from Ahmad to control. Appleby lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ahmad hang on? Ahmad tries to hold on but Appleby pushes him away. Appleby has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Appleby sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Appleby lands a big shot there that rocks Ahmad but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ahmad tries to reverse the position but Appleby maintains control. Ahmad is breathing heavily. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Ahmad wants to control but Appleby is having none of it. Ahmad is looking to improve his position but Appleby isn't that keen on the idea. Ahmad looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Appleby has good solid back control here. Appleby's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ahmad is trying to break free.
Ahmad just trying to survive but Appleby is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Ahmad tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Appleby fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Appleby looking to control and managing it successfully. Appleby prevents Ahmad from getting the reversal. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Appleby dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Appleby looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Appleby tries to free his leg and advance position but Ahmad is retaining full guard. Appleby won't allow Ahmad to sweep him here. Appleby sitting in guard here, content to control. Appleby postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Appleby closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Appleby lands in his opponent's guard. Appleby is breathing heavily. Ahmad being controlled here, momentarily. Ahmad is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ahmad not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ahmad wants to sweep but no luck. Ahmad keeping moving, preventing Appleby from controlling successfully. Appleby has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ahmad is proving hard to escape from. Ahmad working a defensive guard here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ahmad shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Appleby counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ahmad won't be happy with that. Ahmad is looking to regain half guard here but Appleby keeps moving and retains side control. Ahmad manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Ahmad wants to improve his position but Appleby is controlling well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Appleby is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ahmad is just riding it out for now. Appleby eventually gives up the hold. Ahmad wants to control but Appleby is keeping busy and won't allow it. Ahmad wants to improve his position but Appleby is controlling well.
Appleby wants to free his trapped foot but Ahmad is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ahmad has his takedown stuffed and Appleby counters by moving into the clinch. Ahmad is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Appleby pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Irfani Ahmad. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Appleby gets a trip takedown into half guard. Ahmad wants to get back to full guard. Appleby looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ahmad with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Appleby wants to stand up but Ahmad has a hold of him and won't allow it. Appleby is looking to take a break and control but Ahmad is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ahmad is trying to control but can't.
Ahmad is trying to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Appleby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Ahmad changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Appleby looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Ahmad looks up at the clock and then as Appleby takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ahmad smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Ahmad throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Ahmad lands a few punches from side control. Ahmad in side control lands a decent elbow. Ahmad prevents Appleby from escaping the position. Appleby holds on to Ahmad's head and controls the position momentarily. Ahmad working away. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Appleby is looking to regain half guard here but Ahmad keeps moving and retains side control.

Ahmad is working hard here to advance position. Appleby is not going to allow Ahmad to sit and survive in this position. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Ahmad defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Appleby's arms. Ahmad controlling his opponent's hands, preventing the submission attempt. Ahmad can't escape the position.
Jake Appleby has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ahmad trying to control the hands but Appleby won't let him. Ahmad tries to escape but Appleby has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Appleby doesn't have the hooks in and Ahmad manages to turn into his guard.
Appleby controls Ahmad momentarily but Ahmad frees himself. Irfani Ahmad has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Appleby trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Ahmad content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ahmad shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Appleby pinned against the cage. Appleby gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ahmad fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And that's the end of the fight! Jake Appleby comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Appleby has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
