Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gordon Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aliksandr Kowaljow!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowaljow lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
It looks like Gordon Freeman has been cut.
Horrible takedown by Freeman or perhaps it was just good defense by Kowaljow which made him look bad.
Kowaljow misses with the combination.
Freeman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kowaljow was covering up waiting for the punch and Freeman finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Freeman works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Freeman seems to be looking for submissions.
Kowaljow is trying to stand up here but Freeman is controlling him well.
Freeman seems to be working for a kimura but Kowaljow defends the submission attempt.
Freeman stops Kowaljow from getting back to his feet.
Freeman is keen to just control but Kowaljow is a slippery customer.
Kowaljow won't allow Freeman to pass to mount.
Freeman is breathing heavily.
Kowaljow wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Freeman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kowaljow is just riding it out for now. Freeman eventually gives up the hold.
Kowaljow looks like he's trying to stand up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Freeman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kowaljow sprawls well. Kowaljow wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Freeman gets slowly back to his feet.
Freeman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kowaljow wants to get back to his feet but Freeman drags him back down.
Kowaljow really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Freeman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Freeman in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Kowaljow is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gordon Freeman!
