Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryan Riddles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Kuraba! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kuraba shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Riddles as he avoids it easily. A combination from Riddles does no damage. Kuraba gets a takedown into half guard. Riddles is staying active underneath Kuraba, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Kuraba with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kuraba is keen to just control but Riddles is a slippery customer. Nice strikes from Kuraba there. Kuraba wants to pass the guard but Riddles is defending well. Kuraba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Riddles throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Kuraba stalling away here and it's allowed Riddles to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Kuraba trying to control the position from guard on top but Riddles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kuraba throwing strikes but missing. Kuraba wants to control from the top but Riddles keeps moving. Kuraba is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Kuraba looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kuraba slips a jab and a cross from Riddles.
Riddles misses with a takedown and Kuraba counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Riddles! Riddles is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riddles is looking to get to half guard. Kuraba postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Riddles looks a forlorn figure.
Kuraba lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Kuraba is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Riddles has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kuraba lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Kuraba working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Riddles turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Kuraba off and cradles Riddles's limp body as Kuraba celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Kenji Kuraba!
