The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson has closed the distance and engaged Key in a clinch.

Nelson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Key's efforts to push away. Nelson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nelson manages to end up in side control. Nelson happy to just control the position for now. Nelson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Key pulls him back up using the underhooks. Nelson is working for takedown but Key is calmly controlling the position for now. Key shoots in for a takedown but Nelson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Key misses with a hook. Nelson ducked under it nicely. Nelson shoots for a double leg takedown but Key sprawls well. He's pushed Nelson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Junior Key is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Key misses with a two punch combination.

Nelson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Key gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Key has Nelson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nelson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Key has had enough of the clinch but Nelson keeps him there for the moment. Key lands a shot to the body. Key manages to break the clinch.
Junior Key seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Key throws a right hand that Nelson ducks under and follows up with a left that Nelson also avoids with ease. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Key slaps away a takedown attempt from Nelson, before circling back to the center of the mat. DJ Nelson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DJ Nelson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nelson thuds his right hand into Key's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
