PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mark Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Spinx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spinx has chosen Eye of the Tiger as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Marx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Spinx!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marx closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marx accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Marx connects with a nice short shot to Spinx's temple.

Marx is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Spinx defends it well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marx stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Marx shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Spinx but Spinx pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Marx postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Spinx is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marx, into his guard.

Marx slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Marx shoots in and drives through. Spinx sprawls well.
Spinx tries to close the distance and clinch but Marx swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Marx feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Marx throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spinx's waist but Spinx gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marx off to one side.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Marx, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
