Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Cordeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royller Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cordeiro's entrance music is Perry Mason. A fine choice. Royller Gracie told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Cordeiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cordeiro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to avoid it but Cordeiro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gracie to the ground. Gracie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cordeiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cordeiro moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.
Cordeiro gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gracie to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gracie won't allow Cordeiro to sweep him here.
Gracie is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Gracie is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Gracie stands up and beckons Cordeiro to join him on the feet.
Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cordeiro to the mat! Cordeiro manages to get full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee warns Cordeiro that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Gracie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gracie in particular looking to stall.
I looks like Gracie might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cordeiro won't be happy with that.
Despite being in the dominant position, Royller Gracie just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cordeiro's guard.

Gracie feints and as Cordeiro raises his hands in defense, Gracie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Cordeiro tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Cordeiro is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracie lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Royller Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Gracie is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cordeiro can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Gracie is going olschool here, as he tries to force Cordeiro to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cordeiro shrugs it off.

Well Gracie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
