Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edwards's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Funk Soul Brotha - FatBoy Slim. Antonio Alves has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alves.
Alves fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alves avoids the body shot from Edwards.

Alves blocks a head kick by Edwards.

Alves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Edwards might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alves fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Alves tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Alves working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Edwards can't do much from the bottom here.

Alves tries to score with some ground and pound. Edwards controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alves looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Edwards is avoiding damage well.

Alves tries for a kimura but Edwards is defending well.

Alves thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Edwards's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Alves tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edwards sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alves somewhat.

Alves is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Edwards tries a head kick but it misses.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alves moves in looking to clinch but Edwards pushes him off.

Alves rushes Edwards and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Edwards misses with a knee to the head.
Edwards comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Antonio Alves has been cut.
Alves tries to pull guard but Edwards holds him up against the cage and eventually Alves drops back down to his feet.

Edwards lands an elbow inside that Alves shrugs off.
Alves tries to pull guard but Edwards holds him up against the cage and eventually Alves drops back down to his feet.
Mark Edwards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Alves.

Alves fails to pull guard.
Alves is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Edwards gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Alves tries to pull guard but Edwards holds him up against the cage and eventually Alves drops back down to his feet.

Alves has hold of one of Edwards's legs. Edwards is fighting the takedown attempt but Alves gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Edwards defends well.

A close second round but Antonio Alves will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Edwards throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Edwards is looking to clinch but Alves is avoiding it.
Antonio Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Alves tries to clinch there but Edwards circles away.
Edwards ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Alves takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Alves counters with a shoot takedown. Edwards fights it but they end up in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Edwards controls Alves momentarily but Alves frees himself.
Edwards keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Alves drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Edwards dives on top into guard.
Edwards is looking to stand up but Alves won't let him.

Edwards got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Edwards has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted.

Alves looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mark Edwards has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Edwards has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Edwards stands and steps away. Alves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Antonio Alves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Alves tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Edwards counters with a solid body kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Edwards showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Alves has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
