Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kamil Hijaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leland Palmer! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hijaz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Palmer tries to land a front kick but Hijaz steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Hijaz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Palmer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Palmer scores with a nice hook to the head. A right hand to the body from Palmer.
Hijaz is trying to trip Palmer. He has hold of a leg but Palmer is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hijaz persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Palmer keeping moving, preventing Hijaz from controlling successfully. Palmer pulls Hijaz in to control the position. Hijaz throws a strike but Palmer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Palmer showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hijaz has a closed guard, preventing Palmer from standing up. Palmer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hijaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Palmer preventing the sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Palmer sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hijaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Palmer is aware though and is defending well. Hijaz being controlled here, momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hijaz controls Palmer momentarily but Palmer frees himself. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hijaz pulls Palmer in to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Leland Palmer will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Nice uppercut there from Palmer. Palmer misses with a looping right. The fight moves into the clinch position. Palmer lands with a right to the head. A nice left hand lands by Palmer.
Palmer wants to get back to striking at distance but Hijaz won't allow it.
Palmer working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Hijaz is rocked! Palmer throws a big uppercut that drops Hijaz! More strikes from Palmer and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Hijaz lies dazed against the cage as Palmer celebrates with his cornermen!
