0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brute Lesner! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lesner gets caught flat footed, as Herenton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Lesner keeping moving, preventing Herenton from controlling successfully. Lesner looking for a sweep. Not yet Lesner, not yet. Herenton trying to control the position from guard on top but Lesner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lesner is controlling Herenton's posture. Herenton trying to control the position from guard on top but Lesner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lesner is trying to keep Herenton in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lesner has Herenton pulled in close to control his posture. Herenton lands a couple of decent looking shots. Lesner is looking for a triangle but Herenton pushes his legs off easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesner has a closed guard, preventing Herenton from standing up. Herenton wants to control from the top but Lesner keeps moving. Lesner pulls Herenton in close to his closed guard and prevents Herenton from doing any damage or advancing position. Lesner wants to sweep here but Herenton controlling him for the moment. Herenton trying to control but Lesner is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Herenton stands up from guard. Let's bang! Lesner avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lesner shoots and misses so Herenton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Lesner tries to land a sweep but no joy. Herenton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lesner can do anything to dispel that myth. Herenton trying to control the position from guard on top but Lesner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lesner controlling Herenton's posture. Lesner keeping moving, preventing Herenton from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herenton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lesner is proving hard to escape from. Lesner throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Lesner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Lesner has his takedown stuffed and Herenton counters by moving into the clinch. Lesner looks gassed! Herenton breaks the clinch.
Herenton moves away from the strike by Lesner. Lesner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Herenton is looking to regain half guard here but Lesner keeps moving and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lesner decides to take the fight back to the feet. Herenton clinches up with Lesner and pushes him back against the cage. Herenton decides to pull guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Herenton doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Herenton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Herenton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Willie Herenton dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Herenton rushes Lesner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Lesner goes for a takedown attempt but Herenton pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Herenton closes the distance and clinches. Herenton jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lesner walks away with a smile on his face. Herenton gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Lesner clinches. A frustrated look appears on Lesner's face as he tries to break the clinch. Lesner has picked Herenton up - he's going for a ride! Lesner dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Lesner wants to stand up but Herenton is controlling the position.
Lesner stops Herenton from getting back to his feet.
Lesner is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herenton manages to get to full guard.
Lesner works a leg free and moves into half guard. Lesner prevents Herenton from standing back up.
Lesner missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Herenton is looking for a sweep. Lesner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Herenton is trying to maintain the position but Lesner is very close to passing his half guard. Lesner wants to pass to mount but Herenton is defending the position. Lesner has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Lesner is in the full mount, landing strikes. Lesner cracks Herenton with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lesner with shots to the head and body - Herenton looks very uncomfortable down there. Herenton in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Lesner trying to control but he's not successful this time. Lesner content just to control the position here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herenton tries to hold on but Lesner postures up. Lesner controlling the pace for now. Herenton tries to hold on but Lesner postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brute Lesner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Lesner shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Herenton counters with a big head kick but Lesner shrugs it off. Lesner changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Herenton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Herenton is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Lesner has just dragged him back down to the mat. Herenton being controlled for a moment. Lesner throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Herenton works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Herenton could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesner stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Herenton throws a leg kick which misses Lesner's front leg but catches the back leg as Lesner tries to avoid it. Willie Herenton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Lesner gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Herenton to score an easy takedown into full guard. Lesner trying to control the position here. Herenton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lesner is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lesner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Herenton is one step ahead there. Lesner keeping moving, preventing Herenton from controlling successfully. Herenton stands up from Lesner's guard - Herenton perhaps looking for a knockout. Brute Lesner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lesner moves into range and clinches up with Herenton.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herenton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Lesner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lesner lands in his opponent's guard. Lesner stops Herenton from standing up. Herenton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lesner has gone for a leg lock! Herenton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lesner's guard. Herenton preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herenton stands up from guard. Let's bang! Herenton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lesner sprawls well. Lesner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Herenton gets slowly back to his feet. Lesner fails in his attempt to clinch. Lesner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Herenton lands with a kick to the temple. Lesner shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Herenton darts in trying to clinch and Lesner counters with a takedown into side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Brute Lesner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Lesner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
