PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Hugh Jack has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hugh Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Whitaker!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jack throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Mike Whitaker has been cut.
Whitaker tries to move into range but Jack moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jack misses the jab.
Jack is looking to clinch but Whitaker is avoiding it.
Jack keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Whitaker scores with a takedown into Jack's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jack tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Whitaker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Whitaker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Whitaker closes the distance and pushes Jack back into the cage.

Jack jumps guard and drags Whitaker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Whitaker gets to his feet. Jack looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Jack counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Whitaker's guard now.

Jack got a little sloppy there for a moment and Whitaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jack has managed to get both his arms back between Whitaker's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Whitaker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Jack manages to pull guard.
Whitaker stays in close to Jack's body and controls the position.
Jack is wriggling around but Whitaker manages to pass to half guard.
Jack throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Whitaker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack drops Whitaker with a beautiful combination! Whitaker stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Jack is looking for the KO!

Jack shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whitaker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Whitaker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jack kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Jack has Whitaker pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jack pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Whitaker tumbling to the mat - Jack dives into Whitaker's guard.

Whitaker has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jack is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Whitaker.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Jack here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
