The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pate gets the takedown into side control.
Pate in side control, throwing shots but LeBalls defends.

LeBalls is looking to control Pate's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can LeBalls avoid being mounted?

There's a bit of a scramble here and now LeBalls is on top in guard.

Pate escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. LeBalls gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

LeBalls thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

LeBalls moves into the clinch successfully.
LeBalls is pressed up against the cage. Pate has hold of a leg and is looking to drag LeBalls down to the mat. LeBalls avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pate fails with a takedown attempt.
LeBalls steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pate.

LeBalls has closed the distance and engaged Pate in a clinch.

LeBalls's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pate throws a hook to the side of LeBalls's head but LeBalls sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
LeBalls checks a low kick from Pate.
Pate throws a hook but LeBalls avoids it easily.
LeBalls slaps away a takedown attempt from Pate, before circling back to the center of the mat.

LeBalls ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Pate throws a looping overhand right but LeBalls ducks down to avoid it.
Pate misses with a straight left.

LeBalls throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
LeBalls takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
LeBalls will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
LeBalls ducks under a wild hook from Pate.
Pate throws a leg kick but LeBalls sees it coming and moves out of range.

LeBalls forces Pate back against the cage and clinches.
LeBalls prevents a takedown attempt there.

LeBalls has clasped his hands together around Pate's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Pate is looking for a sweep.
Pate is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked LeBalls off and has taken his back!
Pate is trying to stick to LeBalls's back but LeBalls is turning into Pate. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pate's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by LeBalls.

Pate fakes high and swings low for a body shot but LeBalls manages to avoid it.

Pate feints and as LeBalls raises his hands in defense, Pate changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

LeBalls is looking to clinch but Pate is avoiding it.
Pate throws a chopping leg kick but LeBalls manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Pate throws a low kick but LeBalls avoids it.
LeBalls lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
LeBalls tries to clinch up but Pate circles away and keeps his distance.
LeBalls throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pate throws a big shot that misses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as LeBalls checks a leg kick.
Pate misses with a straight right.
Jake Pate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LeBalls rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pate moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
LeBalls throws out a loose jab but Pate uses good head movement to avoid it.
Pate uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from LeBalls.

Pate throws a low kick but it's checked well by LeBalls.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pate walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. LeBalls checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

LeBalls stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

LeBalls has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Pate moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
LeBalls connects with a nice looking jab.

Pate has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Pate there as he acknowledges the shot.

Pate is really struggling to find his range with his punches. LeBalls's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Pate tries to land a front kick but LeBalls steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
The fighters circling - Pate throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
LeBalls might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Well LeBalls has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
