Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Newell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tong Po (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tong Po will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Newell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tong Po! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Po circles away quickly and effectively. Newell fails to land with a series of punches.
Po shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Newell as he avoids it easily. Horrible takedown by Po or perhaps it was just good defense by Newell which made him look bad. Po looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Newell! Po avoids the attempt from Newell to control. Po working for a submission but Newell is keeping him at bay. Newell can't escape the position.
Newell wants to control but Po is having none of it. Newell manages to regain half guard. Good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Newell tries to roll over but Po keeps him under control. Po tries to pass to full mount but Newell defends it. Newell is controlling Po's trapped leg to prevent Po from advancing to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Po trying to pass the guard but Newell defending well. Newell wants to control but Po is keeping busy.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Po shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Newell as he jumps to the side. Matthew Newell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tong Po. Newell plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Newell throws a wild body kick that Po sees coming a mile off. Newell throws a leg kick but Po sees it coming and checks it nicely. Po wants to clinch. Newell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Po tries to score a power double leg takedown but Newell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Po somewhat. Po slips a jab and a cross from Newell.
Po shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Newell as he jumps to the side. Newell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Newell wants it to stay on the feet. Po looks gassed! Newell closes the distance and pushes Po back into the cage. Po is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Newell landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Newell has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Po is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Newell creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Newell gets a trip takedown into half guard. Newell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Newell looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Po is trying to escape the mount.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Newell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Newell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Po's face.
Newell controlling the pace for now. Newell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Po is looking to escape.

Nice sprawl there from Newell as Po shoots in. Po shoots in but no luck this time. Newell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Po. No luck for Po with that takedown attempt. Matthew Newell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tong Po. Newell throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Big trouble for Po! Newell looking to control and managing it successfully. Newell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Po is desperately trying to improve his position but Newell has a good base and remains in mount.

Newell stays in close to Po's body and controls the position. Newell throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Tong Po has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Po will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
