PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blane Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Rampage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Blane Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Rampage!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch but Rampage swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rampage tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rogers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rampage somewhat.

Rogers drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rogers trying to control but Rampage is working from the bottom.
Rogers is stalling in the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rogers has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rogers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rampage looks gassed!
Rampage preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rogers is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rampage is trying to control the position but Rogers postures up.
Rogers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rogers wants to stand and escape but instead Rampage has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Rampage stops Rogers from standing up.
Rogers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rampage is one step ahead there.
Rampage trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Rogers wants to stand but Rampage is controlling the position.
Rampage sitting in guard, not really doing much.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rampage tries for a takedown but Rogers circles away easily

and Rogers counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Rampage has a closed guard, preventing Rogers from standing up.

Rogers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rampage on the ground.
Rampage is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Rampage had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rogers is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rampage Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rogers's back instead.

Rampage wants to improve his position but Rogers is controlling well.
Rogers content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rogers is looking to take a break and control but Rampage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rampage tries to roll over but Rogers keeps him under control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rampage tries to hold on but Rogers postures up.
Rogers working the ground and pound effectively.
Rampage keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rampage sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Rogers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rogers is looking to advance position but Rampage won't allow it.
Rogers wants to stand but Rampage has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rogers trying to control the action but Rampage is working from the bottom.
Rampage trying to control from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rampage manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Rampage is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rampage misses with a takedown attempt

and Rogers counters with a takedown into side control.
Rogers laying and praying for a moment but Rampage takes advantage and regains half guard.
Rogers content to control rather than advance.
Rampage has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rogers is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Blane Rogers dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Rampage shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rogers's guard.
Rampage trying to control but Rogers is working from the bottom.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
Rogers wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rogers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Rampage trying to control the position from guard on top but Rogers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rogers is pulling down on Rampage's head. It's preventing any offense from Rampage, at least for the moment.
Rogers wants to sweep here but Rampage controlling him for the moment.

Rampage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rogers has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rampage has managed to get both his arms back between Rogers's legs - danger averted.
Rampage has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rogers is proving hard to escape from.
Rogers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rogers tries to get out of the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rampage stops Rogers from standing up.
Rogers managing to control the position.
Rampage throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rogers works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rampage shoots and misses

Rampage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rampage wants to stand and escape but Rogers is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rampage lands with a slapping head kick.
Rogers throws a series of punches but Rampage avoids them all with ease.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Blane Rogers.
Well Rogers has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
